MH World struggling to meet Capcom's internal expectations, stock down 11.30%

Recommended Posts

So apparently not releasing on the Switch damaged the franchises legs worldwide

Since the budget was much higher they expected it to sell much more but it hasn't picked up the slack

Capcom stock is currently -11.87% with one hour of trading to go in Tokyo. Reason: Merrill Lynch Japan lowered the target price from 2,800 to 2,300 yen yesterday, and downgraded Capcom stock to "underperform", with Monster Hunter World sales cited as being a "risk".

“significant risk of sales decline” for its flagship Monster Hunter title.
“Although cumulative sales volume is growing steadily, we get the impression the popularity of Monster Hunter is dying down sixth months after its release,”

Yeah Basically they are burning World for their lack of Legs...

Worldwide sales not up to expectations given budget/push

Lowest sales in Japan for a mainline entry since the PSP gen:cmpunk1:Capcom must be regretting their deal with Sony after this and SFV

Highest selling Capcom game ever made. Not sure what Capcom insane target was but it's a success regardless.

Well, it must cost significantly less to produce a game with ds/3ds graphics, and just sell it on one platform.

It's not that it didn't sell, it's that it's not continuing to sell.  They expected it to be a bit more evergreen.

It depends on the budget and the target goals they set for the game to sell lifetime.   Apparently it was more front loaded than they thought.

I think they expected it to be an evergreen title.

If they wanted MHW to keep selling they should have supported it with marketing and meaningful expansions/DLCs.

They are delusional.

Since the game launched and there was that little wave of "best selling game ever" shit I haven't heard a peep about it, I forgot it even existed. The problem here is so did everyone else, they did fuck all to market the game or remind people it's a thing.

Lol exactly. I had fun but got burnt out a few months back.

There isn't any meaningful expansions beside a new monster or two.

Other than that its just beat the hell out of the same few monsters you've fought 100 times already.

I found it sub-par despite the quality of life changes.  The controls are floaty and sliding down hills when running doesn't help.  The visual design is impressive technically but a complete mess.  There's too much shit on the screen, and the level design is complicated to the point of absurdity.  It's so bad they had to introduce the fireflies just to get you from A to B because it takes dozens of hours to be able to recognize where the fuck you are on any given map.  And don't get me started on the squads/general online implementation bullshit.  Apparently "see game, join game/invite friends to your game" was too difficult.  Might as well over complicate the hell of it because fuck you or something.

What does this have to do with Capcom's expectations? It's just a case of investors not caring about past success and asking what you can do for them this quarter. There's no loot boxes and the only DLC MHW charges for is gestures and stickers because they give the content and skins away for free. MHW's incredible past success isn't generating much revenue this quarter and games always tail off.

This is really not a better financial decision for them than fucking MH4U considering all the overhead costs:danylol:

No wonder they're panicking

Of course handheld games will sell more overseas. MHW sold a shit ton and introduced the series for million of new players in the west. It did more for the series growth than the previous 4 games on Nintendo platforms combined.

What Capcom needs to do is a sequel to World to capitalize on this new success. Japan is an irrelevant market.

It's only a matter of time before Crapcom sees the green and falls to Nintendo

What legs? The 3DS Monster Hunter games sell 50% of their lifetime sales in the first 2 days and 75% of their lifetime sales in the first month. Monster Hunter gets its legs from re-releases and updates for new platforms. This "evergreen" stuff is non-sense.

You realize that popular Switch games keep selling year round  and the other consoles shit dies off after a couple months 99% of the time right?

Popular Nintendo games keep selling year round. They did on the 3DS, too, but Monster Hunter didn't.

Keep grasping for straws while Capcom posts record profits on the back of Ditch-excluded games. :juggle:
