Part of me wants to say that shit can’t be right but then all I have to do is go outside and look at the amount of slobs I see on a daily basis. I remember reading a number a while back that said the average woman today weighs around the same as the average man in the 50s :|

These people all need to get off their fat asses and hire GD or someone as their fitness trainer

  4. Game is a fucking BANGER. I said got damn. I’ve played a fuckton of games this year and I’d say this looking to sit comfortably at the top.

My only issues is the menus are literally fucking atrocious.

When I first started it I felt it’s good but kinda more of the same within the first hour, I’m now 5hours in and loving everything about it.

Combat, level design, puzzles, characters and cutscenes, visuals *chef kiss*

  5. Sounds about right and anything other than a full 3D remake should get nothing more than an 8. I mean I consider one of my top 10 all time games but I just can’t replay it again with relatively basic changes. It’s like FFIV or RE4, GOAT games but there’s only so many times you can just re release it with minimal additions and get a free pass.

I never finished it but I did get 40 hours into Trails in The Sky like 7 years ago (played the PC port). I honestly can't remember much about it, but I feel like Trails from Zero has a more interesting start, because of its setting and story. The main city has this gothic/steampunk vibe and the whole premise of playing a detective and doing investigations in and around that urban setting is pretty damn cool. There's a grounded aspect to it thats refreshing compared to other JRPGs that are frontloaded with your typical anime/fantasy elements and use that as a basis for their themes.

What you said sounds a lot like exactly what I was expecting from watching the trailers and gameplay footage 10 years ago  :mjcry:

I saw it on steam earlier today and was thinking giving it a cop because I’m interested in a new rpg on my steam deck

Let me know how it holds up bruh

Put about 2 hours into Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero. The setting and story setup are pretty cool, definitely a bit unique by modern JRPG standards. Wasn't expecting it to have fully voiced VA either (Japanese only but still better than nothing). Combat is simple so far but has some neat ideas (its turn based but you move around a grid like in a SRPG). Overall its a promising little game so far.

You ever play a Trails game? How does it compare to trails in the sky, you played it? at the time trails of zero was in Japan and had no hope of coming here but it seems like it has.

I remember Trails in the Sky was a huge hit here in the rpg thread mostly between me and smoothhands. I recorded a bunch of videos on my old YouTube account haha

  8. I played 5 mins and shut it off. For any other game you can say that’s not enough to give a fair assessment, but I’ve played every single star ocean and I can already tell it is the exact same shit.

Somehow or another I’ve managed to buy every single star ocean either at release or at a discount but this one I can say I won’t ever touch.

Its disappointing because I always look at a new SO at what it can be and the potential but it never tries to be anything more or different than just being a wal-Mart brand Tales game

Remember when I used to trash VP2? :D It seems so good now. :(

LMAO. How could I forgot. I honestly thought you lost your mind.

Anyway my thoughts of the demo is that it’s solid from what I experienced. Even though the game introduces several different gameplay mechanics I felt like it wasn’t anywhere near enough time in what was like  an hour and a half to fully get a grasp of the gameplay but what was there I enjoyed enough.

The problem Like for example in the beginning of the demo you’re give  einherjar, then they’re completely taken away for the rest of the demo and instead introduces you new things in the combat. I really didn’t understand that. I’d like to see it all together

Also I have to say that the artists for VP have to be the best at Square and that’s saying a lot. VP1, 2 and now Elisyum always blow me away from an art design perspective

Id buy anything from the Valkyrie Profile series, including a pile of dog shit. There's no way I'm not supporting this, I'm just hoping if it sells decent it might lead to an actual VP game.

Does the story seems any good?

Ha same. As a huge VP fan a new VP has to convince me not to buy it. The first 2 are some of my favorite games of all time.

About 10 hours into Steelrising. This game has some really solid gameplay and level design. There's actually more Metroidvania elements than in the typical Souls or Souls-like and it often feels like a 3D Castlevania at times. You'll never be able to completely explore an area on your first go because you'll need additional gadgets and abilities that are only unlocked after beating each area's boss.

The only let down so far is the story. Its pretty mediocre and after Greedfall I definitely expected more from this studio in that regard.

the story and cutscenes are just dreadful. It’s amazing they managed to make a setting and premise so interesting but the actual story be such hot doo doo.

Gameplay is pretty legit though. I’d say one of my only gripes is for a souls game it’s pretty easy.

I haven’t played their previous games but if this is representative of their talent, then I’d say they’re on the path to an  AAA hit in the future

Character drama and the amount of cutscenes reminds me of Persona 3-4-5.

The level design is totally old school first person dungeon crawlers, I'm with you on that one.

I can't imagine casual RPG fans will love this. I don't know where you're at the but the soul axis dungeons makes this game grindy as fuck, even for me who enjoy maxing out all my demons before fusing them. You don't have to do those dungeons but they unlock the best character passive skills like getting more stacks for the sabbath. So in a way, it's actually kinda mandatory. The worst part is that the demons found in them are the same as in the new chapter dungeon that unlocked. This is a wasted opportunity, the place should have been filled with at least a few unique demons you can't get anywhere else. It totally feels like filler, definitely a cheap way to artificially extend the length of the game.

Artificially extend the length of the game pretty much sums up my experience with this game. I just reached the 3rd dungeon and it’s….literally the exact same dungeon as dungeon 2. Another subway. I gave the game a pass for the axis but when the main dungeons are regurgitated and Grindy I can see this game really just does not respect the players time at all.

it’s sad because there’s several likable things about the game but actually playing it really feels like a chore.

  13. I more or less feel the same way you do about Soul Hackers, though you said this feels closer to something like persona where as I see what you mean and it’s true but I think it’s something a bit closer to games like Etrian odyssey, Class of heroes, or wizardry…you know ,those first person dungeon crawlers.

I can’t sit here and say I don’t like it, because it has the exact qualities that made me love SMT in the first place in regards to gameplay.

But I just think a lot of the games issues can be attributed mostly due to budget from what I see because if this was suppose to be a throwback to 90s SMT , those at least had a fucking traversable world map, even if it was just moving a triangle through a world

so yeah an 8 feels about right, though you’re a fan of SMT pre-persona 4 like me.

someone who started playing SMT after persona probably won’t appreciate  it’s qualities very much
