Nobody is surprised. Probably not even microsoft shills like remij, bodycount, jonb1 and dynaflop. They all know their games suck, but just want to shill for microsoft.

This logic applies to literally any online based game, you're going to have a better experience playing with friends. This "concern" has nothing to do with this video game itself, it's false equivalency they are leveraging against this title in specific that could be said of nearly anything e.g. Destiny 2 yet they didn't write an article like this for it.

GameSpot writers are idiots and have the logical consistency of a child.

However, while Destiny and Destiny 2 have strikes, raids, a story campaign, and a combat-focused Crucible, Sea of Thieves appears to contain no extra modes as yet. After the game's recent beta, some fans were left concerned that the final version would be too light on content to maintain any sort of significant longevity, and it's a concern I share. Specifically, I wonder whether the game's weapons and gear will offer enough depth to keep me coming back after more than a few hours. Using in-game currency, you can purchase new guns and clothing--among other items--but there are no stat advantages to be gained from buying more expensive pieces. You can obtain different types of weapon, such as the shotgun or sniper rifle, but within those categories there are no mechanical differences between the first shotgun available to you and the last. "The compass never gets more powerful," says Chapman. "A compass is just a compass. A pistol is just a pistol. You'll need to grow as a player as you face these high level challenges."

Nothing to do with the game itself, he says.  They're just picking on this title in specific, he says. :roff:

There are quests in this game and an overarching story in the world that is discovered by continually playing, exploring and finding clues around it yet they not once discuss it, they boil it down to the simplicity of its mechanics and never go beyond that. Also Destiny's "modes" and story boil down to a few hours of content in total that have almost no bearing on actually playing the game and the reality is that people just repeat things over, and over again grinding to increase stats and level that doesn't actually build towards anything.

The fundamentals of the games are nearly identical in terms of online function and the need of friends for the experience to be fleshed out, and as I said they don't make this comparative because they're full of shit. They were also clearly money hatted by Activision as near to Destiny 2's launch nearly everything they released in terms of videos and articles for nearly two weeks was Destiny 2 related and every advertisement on their site was of Destiny 2 for a near month.

Because Destiny has quality matching and a clearly defined goal.  Finish the instance for loot. Like any mmo instance group.

This is literally sea of no man's sky.

A clearly defined goal? You mean a few hour story that could not exist at all and has no real bearing on the game itself or progressing through it?

And looting towards what exactly? A higher level? To do what? Do you see where this is going? It's a loop of nothingness, and as I said like Sea of Thieves you still need to play with friends to flesh out this experience yet they make no comparative of this dichotomy.

How many mmos have you played.  I played like 15.

An instance in dungeon finder gets you a group to run the dungeon with specific classes. One tank,  one healer, 2 dps. That's like mmo 101.

This has you doing random shit with a bad coordinated group. Like having someone look at the back of the map for you or having your view blocked so someone else tells you were to steer etc. The whole games pvp design  is one huge darkzone from the Division.  It's a cluster fuck.

Yet that zone was the only redeeming quality of the game and what everyone played.
