Brazil broke its own record for homicides last year, according to new figures which showed that 63,880 people were killed in 2017 – a 3% increase from the previous year.

Data from the independent Brazilian Public Security Forum said that an average of 14 people died at the hands of police officers every day – an increase of 20% from the previous year.

“There is an impunity about homicide crimes in Brazil,” Lotin said.

According to Rio’s Igarapé Institute, a thinktank specialising in security issues, just 10% of homicides lead to arrest and only 4% in charges.

All that ass and the men are unhappy??

From the article, it appears to a combination of cops being trigger happy, and acting with impunity in the favelas; and the low arrest/solve rate that allows any disgruntled person to seek revenge for any  actual or perceived slight, and knowing that there is a real small chance they'll ever be caught, let alone charged.

If I was cop working in the favelas i'd be trigger happy too. Those places are dangerous as fuck for normal people, let alone authority figures like cops.

I wiki'd the size of my city, and it's 73K, so like 9/10 of my city was killed last year....

Brazil is a real shithole in a lot of places. Criminals seem to be of the worst kind as well, all the most fucked up videos and stories on sites like Liveleak are usually from Brazil

it's good to fucking now how human beings CAN act, doof-face. It relates to how you understand your life here and mankind if you have the brains to put it all together.

But I guess you never will or don't.  Simpleton.

A little sad. I see / weep / get / don't care? about the mistreatment of favelas/shanty folk.  (that's fucked up actually...)

but the fact a disgruntled person can and will come out and stab or shoot your is a little freightening. That can happen to anyone. could happen arguing over a woman or 3 at the bar tikki.

So the POLICIA are mostly responsible (their lack of organizational and thorough legal job) for a lot of the deaths.   Sadness.  What's the annual death rate for the US? Including POPO shootings. 63k sounds high. US is at like 20k or something too..  5-6x difference accounting for population.
