Marvel's 'Spider-Man' sold 3.3M copies in the first three days of release

Beats the God of War record with 3.1M in the first three days of release. And the number doesnt even factor the copies that came with the PS4 Pro Amazing Red bundle

The popular comic-book superhero's recent resurgence has expanded beyond cinemas and into the world of video games, with the wallcrawler's latest self-titled game selling a record 3.3 million copies in the first three days of its release earlier this month.
One million copies were pre-ordered, another record for Sony.

That figure also does not factor in sales of the company's limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro bundle that combines a special Spider-Man version of the console with a copy of the game for $399.99.
"It's met and exceeded all expectations. I think the company, and the campus, and our fans are super proud of it.

Sony is a video game industry superhero saving talented development studios from Microsoft's terrible management. I'm fully expecting the guys from Capcom Vancouver to start up a new studio and make a Playstation exclusive that's a GOTY contender and pushing 4 million in 3 days thanks to Sony's guidance and commitment to quality entertainment.

Thank you, Sony, for saving gaming year after year. :lawd:

Expect no Spiderman game ever came this high across MULTIPLE platforms.

And gaming has never been more casual, more accepted and more mainstream in its history by ridiculous margins. 7-8 years ago PC gaming was still relatively niche, a nerd activity which is now openly accepted and engaged in by basically everyone. It took Steam 7 years to hit roughly 70 million generated accounts, the following 7 years it hit roughly 700 million.

Apples to oranges.

Batman Arkham Knight: 5 million copies in 4 months

PlayStation 4 sales were the highest for a single SKU across any Batman game since the NPD Group began tracking the industry.[188] By October 2015, the game sold over 5 million units worldwide.

That bears no comparison and has no relation on the demographic change in gaming. You're also citing a saga of games as opposed to a stand alone title, plus Spiderman is a dramatically more popular superhero than Batman.

LOL What? Batman outperformed every single PS360 or PS4/XBox One Spiderman game. Before Batman was larger in gaming than Spiderman.

There's never been a Spiderman game of the Arkham caliber until now. I'd argue that the Arkham series and now this Spiderman are the only two competent superhero entries ever made.

Here's a great representation of casual influx.

Counter-Strike: Source

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 46,305,966

LOL, i love how Dynocrap is simply making up more shit.

"demographic change in gaming"

"spiderman is dramatically more popular superhero than batman"

Wasn't he the one that was trying to downplay the thread from last week about Spiderman's UK sales numbers as saying that its not indicative of anything because it was only the first couple of days of stats?

And now he's trying to downplay in the other direction as saying that a popular superhero game sold alot is not a surprise?  Poor guy, he'd sound so clever if we didn't remember what he typed yesterday. LOL

What?

Batman is definitely one if the most popular super heroes of all time.

The Batman games sold millions individually as well... years ago.

One of, Spiderman is still more popular especially in the comic scene which is the entire origin of these characters.

So by your logic...........because of the "comic scene", Spiderman's popularity should have made those PS2 sell more than the Arkham games.

See...........your own bullshit has you cornered, you're going to have to concede something in order you get out of your own self-made corner.

You're on drugs.  Batman is more popular than Spiderman in Videogames, comic books, movies, the 90s animated series, the DC animated movies, pop culture etc.

Spiderman is just having a little resurgence  in popularity because of Avengers.      Batman has been consistently popular for decades.

That's not true, since 1939 Batman has sold like 450 million comics, since 1963 Spiderman has sold like 375 million, that's over a million issues more sold per year than Batman, Spiderman is much more popular.  Batman has had better games, the mechanics of the character has given credence to better function over the course of technological advancement. Making a Spiderman game has always posed issues with the scope, scale and function of character relative to mechanics of web slinging through a massive city. A Spiderman game couldn't have been properly done until now, and now it finally has been. I'd argue even now that a competent Superman game could not be made yet, we're not technologically there to handle that kind of scale and seamless scope or levels of destruction.

Also better TV shows for children doesn't equate to a more popular character in general.
