PS360 gen was the worst gaming timeline in existence

1. I remember I was so sick of fucking games with GUNS, I wanted to buy something else but there was nothing especially till 2009 when PS3 picked up Steam.

 

2. The PSP/DS nightmare started, Dragon Quest went to sub N64 graphics on DS after DQVIII PS2. Kingdom Hearts moved to PSP and DS. PSP got a borderline main series MGS entry with Peacewalker that played like a gimped take on Monster Hunter. Fucking SMT moved to DS, and reused the PS1 sprites (Literally) after the PS2 era polygon rooster. DS was basically a shovelware garbage dump with shit like Imagine Babies and other trash, PSP was a ghetto ass PS2.

 

3. JRPGs basically died, outside of a few exceptions. So did platfomers and multiple other genres.

 

4.  Every Tom, Dick and Harry decided to copy Gears with the cover system. Tacked on coop everywhere, tacked on multiplayer in Single Player games.

 

5. Japanese games basically tanked. We got the worst entries in the main Japanese franchises, Resident Evil 5/6, FFXIII, Star Ocean. . They weren't just worse, some of them were borderline insultingly bad.

 

6. The Wii happened, with like 3 games with Motion Plus support by the end of the gen. Barely functional games, Gamecube graphics, tacked on broken controls. The new hot word was "non gamers". Basically the whole system was trash. Worst entry in Zelda, worst entry in Metroid Prime, shit Mario games that requires you to waggle the controller to even attack.

 

7. 360 was the "premier" console at the first that didnt totally suck, then it turned into a rehash Halo/Gears/Forza brick and then came kinect (And Jonbo bought it of course, twice). With the initial "good phase" being timed exclusives that were later ported anyways like Mass Effect, Bioshock, Eternal Sonata etc making it one of the worst console purchases in retrospective.

 

8.  PS3 2006-2008. Resistance, Warhawk, Motorstorm, Haze and whatever the fuck they had till MGS4, Demon Souls, Uncharted 2, Ratchet etc came.

 

 

Playstation 3 somehow ended up saving the gen mid way through from the dumpster fire that it was.

In retrospective  "XBox's best years" were the worst years in gaming history. Thats why the 360 nostalgics are pretty comical, I wish the XBox One would go back to the 360 days!!.... No thanks

Once Call of Duty went mainstream, gaming went shitty for a while. Galaxy 1&2, Uncharted 2&3, and TLOU were the only real standout titles from the gen IMO. I'm glad gaming seems to be getting refocused on delivering a solid single player experience. Sony's first party in particular has been just incredible this gen in delivering solid games pretty much every few months.

Yeah, the 6 hour campaign was born. I’m glad they are now more substantial again. 15-50 hours, depending on the game/genre.

What do remasters have to do with what current get offers? They are just options of not needing to own old systems, and get best versions of said games. Want to get a Dreamcast out for Shenmue or a Gamecube for Timesplitters?

It was also the gen where PC went to shit, isometric WRPGs died out. A whole genre that later had to be revived through kickstarters, and has been widely successful.

Crysis turned the majority of PC developers (and by extension the faction itself) into graphics whores.

 

But at the same time, we had the Orange Box, FEAR, the Witcher, and even some actual RTS games: Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes.

Kickstarter this gen has resulted in some amazing games that never could have been made under a publisher, 10s of games.

 

Think someone would greenlit a Swery65 about a town with cats? Wasteland 2? Cosmic Star Heroine?  Fuck Shenmue 3 was a game that was NEVER going to happen otherwise. A freaking VR Adventure Novel for PSVR?

I agree and disagree on some aspects, but definitely PlayStation 3 saved last generation 2009 and beyond. If it wasn't for PlayStation we'd be fucked.

Demon's/Dark Souls

Probably no one played this game, but Folklore was good. It was an early PS3 first party title that released summer 2007.  Always hoped it'd get a sequel, but then Game Republic shut down.

Game was good. It had a great foundation set up for what could be a great sequel. It was PS3’s best 1st year game but it didn’t have much competition lol.
