The hardware is the most competitive Nintendo has released in the last two console generations, where Wii and Wii U were comically underpowered. One was a turbo Gamecube a generation later, and Wii U was inferiour to PS360 in the CPU department. If you look at it from a handheld perspective there has never been a Nintendo handheld even as remotely as high end at the time of its released. Its not really a third party friendly piece of hardware, but it's more than adequate for Nintendo's first party games looking great. 2. The handheld and console teams are unified. No longer is there going to be a flagship Zelda like Link Between Two Worlds and Skyward Sword on two seperate platforms at the moment the same time. 3. The sales of the thing are impressive. This means Nintendo's first party sales get a massive boost in sales and profits. This helps them untie their hands and they can safely throw more money into funding more games, and budgeting them higher. 4. Let's be real, almost all Switch exclusives will be from Japan. Giving it a very unique flavour in terms of library. How many open world Western games do we have this gen that just blur together? Switch's library is unique. 5. Nintendo has DLC content, but they make more "complete" games than the average third party. Only Sony does this right now. God of War, Detroit had zero DLC, and Spiderman also has almost no DLC. 6. Exclusives. Exclusives. Exclusives and once again exclusives. The most important key to owning a system, and to how we will look at a system in say 10 years with nostalgia. You can't point to something like Mass Effect without pointing to Xenoblade Chronicles X. The reason why ports like this ran like shit is because they were never patched because they didn't sell because, as it turns out, Wii U was a bona fide pile of shit of a console. jehurey 3,230 Posted December 13, 2018 Share Posted December 13, 2018 People haven't even seen the real upside of Nintendo teaming up with nVidia. Things are going to be getting a hell of alot more interesting after 2020. This is just rumor, but nVidia executives were trying to find a partner to help get sell their Tegra processors, and Nintendo got a sweet deal. But, its also a 10-year manufacturing deal. And, more importantly, nVidia has gotten Nintendo to use their software development tools, essentially guaranteeing them that they have to develop for nVidia GPUs in the future. Nintendo is going to be as rich as they've ever been here within the next year or two. At some point, Nintendo execs will decide that even though their development is unified for one platform, that doesn't mean they can't have multiple platforms and go back to selling handheld and console hardware again.
