So PS3 BC could be possible on Ryzen apparently

Recommended Posts

The Ryzen variant next-gen apparently will support https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVX-512

"It's an instruction set extension to AVX, to work on super wide vector computation. Vector computation is form of parallel computation where you can execute the same operation simultaneously on a lot of data. Say you want to multiply a bunch of numbers by the same factor, say multiply by 2. Instead of doing the multiplications one by one, you line them all side-by-side and do it all at once. As long as your pipeline exploits this behavior, vector computation can be much, much faster than conventional computation. It's a big deal for PS3 emulation because the Cell SPEs were vector processors, and trying to emulate their behavior through conventional - scalar - computation is nigh impossible."

Doubt it, but interesting none the less.
