This might make sense if 500 other multiplatform games and BC titles didn't fill out the year. Xbox is as much of a main platform as PlayStation 4 is.

The difference between the two is basically just the level of A and AA Japanese support, Xbox gets pretty much all AAA Japanese games. While that A and AA sector may be big for some people for most it's not. The lions share of Japanese games that release are generally weird niche titles that sell to small subsets of the community.

I mean Yakuza 6 only sold a few hundred thousand copies and look at how much that franchise is thrown around verbally. The libraries are only a few hundred apart over a five year period (mostly those Jap games) and in terms of games purchaseable and playable Xbox has hundreds more than PS4.

You conveniently left out EXCLUSIVES for some reason but listed BC as "filling out the year" :mj:

not only is xbox one nowhere near as much of a main platform as ps4, xbox one is probably the first platform with third party support that isnt a viable LONE platform - the first party is that bad. in theory, it should be possible to subsist only on multiplats, but yall tried that and failed, as i detailed. why does the theory fail? because while you throw around a figure like "500" multiplats a year, no one is actually playing even half that. theyll play like 1-2 dozen games in a given year, if that. with a smaller sample size, it becomes clear that battlefield and ubisoft games being the meat of your gaming, just sucks.

another difference - and the one with the biggest mainstream impact - is the respective first party lineups. ps4's feature the most critically/commercially successful exclusives on the platform (9.0's, GOTY contenders, system sellers), and the top graphical showcases (even outshining the more powerful and usually more expensive xbx). make no mistake: 1) ps4 first party games are the best/among the best games on the platform, and 2) there is a massive gulf between ps4 and xbox first party.

AAA japanese games is pretty much a misnomer. the majority are the A-AA productions, so to say that xbox is "only" missing out on these, is to say its "only" missing out on the majority. you even have to qualify your statement with "pretty much," because xbox still isnt getting all the AAA support. and sure, any ONE of these titles isnt moving the needle much, but what of the sum? bloodborne, dragon quest, guilty gear, persona, street fighter, yakuza - theres something for everyone and at some point it becomes too much to ignore. its death by a thousand cuts..

and thats the prevailing theme. you can try to dismiss the importance of ps4's first party exclusives (i mean, god of war and spiderman are literally breaking records and selling systems as we speak, but sure) and the entire A-AA japanese market.. but again, what of the sum of stellar first party + full third party support from the west and east? again, you throw around "only a few hundred games difference" like its so miniscule, when the average person isnt going to play so many the entire gen. most will see ~3% of the total libraries, with focus on the higher scoring titles (sorry sea of thieves..). when you reduce the sample size to whats realistic, ps4 exclusive/xcluded titles are worth their weight in gold.

So with the Xbox1 selling at a bargain bin price + game VS Switch at almost TWICE THE PRICE with a game.  (199 Vs 359)

XB1 should easily win December, since Switch is a novelty, its not the hot new thing anymore, no one will buy it after Oddessy, it lost momentum, its down vs 2017 take it to the bank and it fell off a cliff.

Are we working on 2019 already?  Why we even arguing?  Xbox has officially won 2018.  On January 1st, we can all start baiting each other again to see if the Sheep and Cows can relinquish the championship from the Lemmings.  2018 was a challenging year and we Lemmings accept this win with grace and humility, however we will not go silently into the night in 2019.  You will have to fight us tooth and nail for the SW goty award next near.  Good luck to all!  Even the losers.  bahahahaaha :D
