Digital Foundry discusses how Xbox One/S performance is degrading over time, PS4 SDK is a lot better than Xbox SDK, etc.

Recommended Posts

They talk about how developers just don't care to put resources into the original Xbox One / S version of games which over time results in games getting worse. The major reasoning behind it is because of the difference between it and the PS4, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. It has ESRAM built directly into the die and a pool of DDR3 memory. The other three share a unified pool of GDDR5 memory. Developers apparently regularly complain about Xbox One / S / X development and even go on to say that the PS4 SDK tools are much better than Microsoft's Xbox SDK. Looks like Sony is winning behind the scenes too. :whew:

Not only is Xbox One / S the biggest pieces of shit to hit the market it's going to be powering the xCloud. :tom: Speaking of cloud based game streaming Digital Foundry also did a video about Project Stream and came to the conclusion that it's no better than what PlayStation Now is doing in terms of latency... and some how lemshits think Micropenis is going to pull off some major breakthrough in game streaming with the Xflop dOne / S based xCloud? :rofl:You're in for some hurt. :mj:

It's weird that Lemmings so readily flipped their position.   Last gen one console was a technological marvel and the other was a worthless piece of shit.    Now however the weaker

You thinking anyone cares what you think especially after your CPU IPC comments.  You should be banned from ever talking about technology again     RTX is the future

It's weird that developers so readily flipped their position relating to a device like this given that it's the near identical ideological design that existed with the Xbox 360 in terms of eDRAM and now eSRAM, simpler even given it's x86 instead of Power PC architecture. Developers praised 360 for development purposes. This kind of flip flopping in terms of ideology leads me to believe that maybe developing for the PlayStation 3 wasn't so bad and developers are just lazy and cry a lot in environments that are slightly more difficult than another relative device.

Man why does context always escape your dense ass?

Developers praised the 360 because it was a better development environment when compared to the PS3.

But for this Gen.... PS4 provides a better development environment than the OG1 and the S.   Sony learned from their arrogance with the PS3 and developed a developer friendly console.

Now... had they stuck to their guns and made the PS4 as difficult to develop for as the PS3..... then the OG Xbox1 and the S would have been considered more developer friendly.

Ideologies didn't flip flop, they're just stating which one is more development friendly.

It's not flip flopping and the eDRAM on the Xbox 360 was much better to deal with than PS3's Cell and split pool of memory. At the time it was obviously preferred, but it's old now and 32MB isn't enough. It's now a burden because you have 3 basically identical systems and one red headed step child. Everyone has embraced Mark Cerny's console design, even Microsoft. The real winner here is that Sony is providing a better development environment per Digital Foundry.

The context isn't escaping me you moron, and this isn't about relativity. God you're such a fucking faggot.

Sure the PlayStation 4 is easier to develop for but these same developers who were fine, knocking development out of the park with the 360 and praising it are chastising a system operating within the same kind of developer environment. These complaints were ushered in from the beginning of the generation, none of what is being said here is new so coming right off of the heels of the 360 into the One they started complaining, FOR NEARLY THE SAME DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT... Easier even as I said given the architecture.

That's fucking retarded, even if the PS4 was easier than that to develop for that doesn't suddenly make this existing environment you've already been accustomed to and praised for nearly a decade somehow difficult now because something easier so comes out. The reason Microsoft built their system in this manner was directly the result of developer praise for the 360... Think about that...

They got lazy, entitled and started bitching. As I said this makes me question the whole 7th generation and the PlayStation 3, these people just sound whiny.

Honestly it doesn't matter. Digital Foundry is cool, but in the grand scheme of things the shit they analyse is borderline irrelevant.

You think the average S owner gives a shit about any of this?

It doesn't matter to you, but getting insight on development environments and visual evidence that Xbox One / S games are degrading is bad news for people who actually own one and are starting to see the console's age. Not to mention Microsoft's entire cloud game streaming initiative is based on this disaster console. :juggle:

I know you don't care about game streaming and neither do I, but the technology behind it fascinating and more complex than one would think. It's even more interesting now that Digital Foundry was able to analyze the newest competitor in game streaming and come to the conclusion that it isn't better or any different than what Sony has been offering for years. Goes to show how far ahead Sony has been since 2015.

Honestly I'd take an S powered system with great exclusives, over an X with zero.

The PlayStation 4 is degrading too at basically the same degree, they are both degrading.. We're seeing more 900p'ish PS4 games and some even in the 720p range now. The Xbox One is just more noticeable because it was a lower baseline to begin with.

Weren't you a lemming last generation and never owned a PlayStation 3? If that's true then you just contradicted your own statement.

Not really. PlayStation 4 is holding up extremely well. The Xbox One version of games are literally at even lower resolutions, missing effects, lower framerates despite lowered resolution, and other various performance issues. Simply lowering the Xbox One's resolution to keep pace with PlayStation 4 is no longer an option as it now requires additional resources that developers just don't care to provide. It's right in the video.

If you look at any game franchise with relativity to the beginning of the generation and engine evolution to now for the PlayStation 4 they've degraded to basically Xbox One starting resolution for operation.

They've both degraded severely.

Games today are still very relevant on base PS4 systems because the system simply is holding up to today's development environments and the fact that it's more powerful in every aspect versus Xbox One / S. The developers don't have to fuck around with an ancient design on base PS4... it's just like working on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. You're trying to spill Xbox One / S game degradation over onto base PS4 and it's not working. Most PS4 games outside of trash like Battlefield V are still mostly 1080p @ solid 30/60fps depending on the game.

I'm not trying to spill anything, engines have advanced and they're becoming more demanding. The PlayStation 4 is not immune to newer demands. Frostbite games are now 720p'ish+, CoD games are now 900p'ish, Assassin's Creed games are in between 900p and 1080p, Far Cry games are now like 1000p'ish.

It's scaling back, it's degrading. Also the PlayStation 4 is not more powerful in every aspect, the Xbox One has a better CPU.

Those games are holding up much better on PS4 than Xbox One / S could ever dream of. Missing effects, performance issues, even lower resolutions. You're not going to win this. The base PS4 is a better system and is standing the test of time while the opposite is clearly not.

The CPU isn't better, it just has a higher clock speed likely to handle all of those Kinect and snap features in the past. Glad all of that shit held up. :mj: They're both exactly the same custom 8-core AMD Jaguar, one being 1.6GHz and the other being 1.75GHz. Oh lawd, a 150MHz increase, what a show stopper! The reason why PS4's CPU is better is because it actually has a GDDR5 memory controller. The PlayStation 4 is better in every aspect. Deal with it.

I didn't say they were not holding up better but its decline seems to mirror that of the Xbox One almost exactly. The difference between the two systems was not always resolution, settings and performance were a factor as well from day one. The way these systems are falling back seems to be in unison and doesn't diverge from the gap they always had.

The CPU is still better.
