Metroid Prime has some of the worst controls in the FPS genre, period...

I hadn't touched this game in like 15 years and I just loaded it back up, what an absolute shit show in terms of control, it's borderline unplayable it's so unintuitive. At this point in time dual analog controls in FPS games had already been well established like three years prior not to mention Red Faction and Halo showing how clunky and dumb single stick control was... 

 

"Hold L to strafe but strafe is also lock on, hold R to free aim but you can only do it if you're stopped"

 

"C-stick? Fuck that thing, it's totally an analog input but let's just act like it doesn't exist"

 

Total abomination...

The Gamecube was a single analog stick console, and had one shoulder button. I mean I agree with you about them being shit in some regard, but what could they possibly do with such a controller.  How would you map it.

It's an adventure game. Space ghosts are SO fast it doesn't matter to lock on. I found the game a nice breath of fresh air.

Can you imagine them trying to shoot the enemies in a Metroid Prime game using the turning and aiming controls from a Halo game?
