Playstation Tablet 1,725 Posted January 20, 2019 Share Posted January 20, 2019 (edited) A great example is when the Pro/Neo first leaked, people were bitching how the base PS4 is powerful enough to last the whole gen and that iterative models were not necessary and shouldn't even exist in the console space. Then you had people bitching that the X wasn't delayed an extra 6 months to have Ryzen CPU. All of a sudden we went from 12tflops minimum to people discussing 8tflop next gen consoles as viable. Once again proving they don't know what the fuck they want. Then you have the bitter X crowd that are in denial that they paid 500 dollars for a system way past mid gen phase, and want the gen to last till 2025 or something. And MS is investing all their software resources into next gen anyways, non of their bought studios are making current gen games. The reality is that hardware releases should be based on viable market strategies, and trivial hardware differences should play a secondary role. There is ALWAYS better hardware over the hill, and in an age of scalability and iterative models, frankly non of this shit even matters. That said... people need to remember that a 8TF Navi =/= 8TF Polaris or Vega.. We don't know enough about the architecture to say any different. There's so much more to it now than just TFlops numbers. The next machines are going to be little beasts... you can rest easy about that. Finally consoles will have great CPUs to go along with way more compute power, as well as new improvements and methods of rendering pixels... It seems MS and Sony will use a Navi Lite that's probably cheaper, and easier to manufacture. Maybe even designed for faster price declines in the future than their standard counter parts. Insiders have said over 10tflops, most importantly Matt. Which is what expected, what would be more amazing if they can hit $400 in 2019-March 2020 which is the absolute latest it can launch. Sure it has four more CU's than the Pro however it also has a frequency which is 261Mhz (29%) higher. 10% increase in CU's, 29% increase in frequency. Edited January 21, 2019 by DynamiteCop!
