Resident Evil 2 has debuted at No.1 in the UK charts, more than 20 years since it last managed the feat.

The original PS1 game launched in the UK in April 1998.

It's Capcom's biggest UK launch since January 2017 when Resident Evil 7 topped the charts. Resident Evil 2 didn't manage to beat the sales of that game (sales are around 18 per cent lower), but it's an impressive result considering this isn't a full new sequel. The data only includes physical game sales.

The game, which was revealed on stage at PlayStation's E3 press conference, sold best on PS4. In fact, Sony's platform accounted for 74 per cent of the sales.

Only physical, no digital, and only 18% behind RE7.. which released on a Tuesday and not a Friday.. :vince:

Digital sales have also grown dramatically in the past 2 years.. so it's fair to say, the game is doing well.

That 74/26 split though... lmao

thanks for 'saving' xbox, phil :geese:

Holy shit. The 360 really got a lot of Playstation fans to switch to Xbox last gen.

Bodycount is an idiot as usual.

Software remains healthy and I really need to stress how large the digital shares are on Xbox compared to other platforms.

Xbox has higher digital adoption than PlayStation, it's a much more online geared platform. None of these UK sales threads account for digital purchases so they're largely worthless metrics.

Xbox One has sold roughly 5 million units in the UK while the PS4 has sold around 6 million. Their relative disparity nearly identically echoes the United States sales ratio.

This 74%/26% split is lacking a great deal of context. I have no doubt it sold better on PS4 but a 55%/45% split would no doubt be relatively accurate with digital sales accounted for.

You guys are getting too spun up on context absent incomplete information.

Game is doing damn good on Steam.  It's in the same sales range as RE7 after 2 years and multiple discounts and Steam sales (permanent discount as of now) as of just 4 days after launch.

It's also still holding the current top 2 spots on the "Top Selling" lists both domestically and globally. :wow2:

Damn good for Capcom.  I'm sure the console versions are selling like crazy as well.  Game will be at 5 mil in no time.  While I'm guessing DMC5 wont match RE2's sales (at least on PC) hopefully they knock it out of the park with that game as well.  Capgods

And after this arguement, you're trying to say there is no possibility of a discless next gen.

DynamiteCop.... did you forget that for AAA games in the UK the majority or the sales come form Digital? :mjpls:

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-01-02-uk-video-games-market-is-now-80-percent-digital

That means when it comes to AAA releases, digital sales only account for around 25 per cent of the games sold.

We went over this already:cmpunk1:

That in no way breaks down percentages per platform or for an individual game. That's a broad stroke percentage which encompasses everything.

That's like trying to push the pay gap narrative without getting into the specifics of how and why it exists.

Sony has about a 55% share of the market in the UK, when you've got wildly disproportionate physical sales to that market share and an analyst stressing that one of the platforms digital shares compared to the others is much larger you should probably pay attention to that and be able to put two and two together.
