One leads to the other though... but fair enough.

The basic shit that has to be explained to him is astounding

GamePass is next

Was this an announcement?  Or the announcement of an announcement by an unofficial source? :drake:

The reason why this is news is because it's an SDK that developers can use in their games to easily allow crossplay in games between the devices listed.

This isn't integration within the Switch OS... this doesn't mean news that MS is bringing more of their games to Switch...  This means that developers can build Xbox live features into their Switch games.

It's an integration into GAMES... not the SWITCH...

Pretty much how I see it. This doesn’t mean you can play Xbox games on your Switch at all, you simply sign in to XBL for the cross play games. Even if you somehow think you are getting Xbl on Switch  for free, don’t you still have to pay Nintendo for online play?

For sure.  Basically what I see is some developers will use MS' Xbox Live SDK in their online games which will make it really easier for developers to connect their communities across those devices supported.  The user will have to pay Nintendo to play online, and they will log into Xbox live through the game and will be able to get achievements and other shit associated with the platform.  All of this is built into the SDK and integrated into the game on a per title basis.  This helps MS grow Xbox live as a service because it will gain more members and further market reach.  Nintendo would never allow Xbox Live to be integrated on an OS level.  The would be huge security issues.

Obviously... MS IS of course doing this because the more developers support their SDK built right into their games, then the device played on becomes less of a factor.  The intention is to have people sign up and attach themselves to the service.. and then become dependent on it.

So essentially it's Live integration for future cross-play capable games on Switch so an easy network connection can be made with those who are on Xbox. Is that about the gist of it?

Yep, pretty much.  It's essentially MS decentralizing Xbox live as an "Xbox console service" to a service that provides an easy connection through all supported devices on a per game basis.  They will be doing their damnedest to make it as easy and inviting as possible for developers to implement the SDK into their code and it will allow them to greatly expand their potential market and active user base for their own services.

That's seems pretty straightforward, I don't understand all the doom and gloom. It's clear that Microsoft want to expand certain things and form external partnerships for easier integration with their own platform via other platforms but at the same time it's abundantly clear that they're not externalizing other aspects and have no intention to. Microsoft's games will not be releasing on anything other than PC and Xbox, both of which are under their veil of control more or less. Streaming? Sure, native software operation external of that? No.

I know you joke, but that is the most important thing.

Only engaged, money spending MAUs. Releasing MAU figures along with game sales numbers, hardware numbers, breakdowns of paid subs and non paid subs etc is fine but if you're doing like MS and literally only announcing MAUs then it's pointless. Adding the number of ppl that are playing Minecraft from all systems (that are already doing it without XBL) to your XBL MAU numbers is ridiculous and just meant to look good.

What's deeper about this?

Nintendo isn't implementing Xbox live into the OS on a system level... this is an SDK for games to utilize.... nothing more.

"This deeper integration goes way beyond that, though - to tie non-Microsoft games on non-Microsoft platforms into Xbox Live as well. So, for example, if you're playing Warframe on Nintendo Switch, you could earn Xbox achievements. Or if you're playing Fortnite on mobile, you could browse your Xbox friend list to find people to play with."

That's deeper integration than what's available now bro.

Sounds like the sheep are getting trojan horsed.

:danylol:

On the real though this would be cool for both Nintendo and Xbox players. Hell Nintendo should have just implemented Live to handle their whole network, that would have done wonders for them and brought them up to speed immediately.

Trojan horsed to play cross play games on Switch with XBL integration? lol

This is just one less reason to own an Xb1 :mickey:

Yes trojan horsed, when you have a competitor manufacturers network function integrated into games on your platform as the means of play you've been successfully infiltrated.

In what dimension is this less of a reason to own an Xbox? This doesn't replace their hardware and it doesn't make their games available to you.
