Playstation Tablet 1,725
The answer is fucking obvious. You could play a new God of War or Zelda every year and it would still be semi fresh. Racing game fatigue is real. There are only so many circuits you can race around in a circle without getting bored out of your fucking mind. Maybe the first racing game at the start of the gen is exciting, but how many mainline Forza or GT games can you take a gen? Its puke inducing by the 3rd sim racer a gen in. Not mention other games have value and are worth replaying 20 years later, you shitbin the older racing games as soon as the new one comes out. Cooke 2,026
Because it's a simulator. Flight Sims, racing Sims etc. They aren't really fun. You can do both of those activities for real, there's no imagination behind it. You obviously can't run around the countryside with a sword killing orcs and goblins and scaling cliffs and casting spells in real life.
jehurey 3,228
There's the sense that they are Madden'ing the development process and re-using stuff. I was watching the intro to NFS Hot Pursuit 2 Holy shit! Racing games had personality back then. People were hyped to play them.
MalaXmaS 646
Racing is too broad of a genre to be criticizing it as a whole. It's kinda like first person shooters. You have arcade (like Unreal Tournament, Quake), then you have team based (like Team Fortress Classic, Team Fortress 2), and then you have tactical team based (like SWAT, original Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six Rogue Spear). Regarding racing, if you don't think racing games are real games, then you are probably talking about simulators. Simulators are not meant for everyone. However, there is an actual joy of pushing a machine to its limits near the bends. For that crowd, games like Project Cars, Dirt Rally, iRacing, GTR, Assetto Corsa and to some degree Gran Turismo and Forza exists. They are games that let you test cars to their limits without any penalty. Unlike real life, which costs a lot of money (set of tires, part repairs, insurance, track fees and a possible car purchase if you wreck it).
The Mother Fucker 26
The only good racing games were Arcade Racers and sadly the Japanese don't make those games any more.
