XBox Scarlett needs to see good sales for the benefit of next-gen

Recommended Posts

If we throw away all the fanboy bullshit, PS5 alone can't carry nextgen dev budgets for third party devs imo, even with PC being a major player.

It's better if all nextgen hardware sees good sales so we see a smoother transition, and publishers can drop cross gen shit as soon as possible. It's going to benefit everyone in the grand scheme of things, even if you just own a PS5. PC would probably see the greatest benefit with the windows store on top of just third party games on Steam/Epic store.

I don't think Sony and MS consoles cannabilize each other's sales to the point where one side has to stagger/flop for the other to see gains imo. MS and Sony consoles are basically twins in the same third party viability trench.

If MS can up their 6-7 million annual box sales to say over 10 million, owners of all next gen hardware are going to see a benefit.

I mean I think it's clear the Xbox One is going to end the gen around 60-65 million which is very respectable considering it will have been replaced before the Xbox 360, it didn't get a second wind from a Kinect release later in the gen, and it had one of the worst launch controversies in history. The PlayStation 4 and way it has sold is an edge case, it's atypical, the Xbox One is more in line with the generality of how consoles have typically sold in the past. All Microsoft has to do is come out of the gate with some good games, good services and a good system with a clear message and they'll be fine.

Microsoft is already averaging 8.2 - 8.8 million annually so they don't have to do much to reach your stated annual figure.

Scarlett's software line up simply can't be as bad as One's so by default it's going to see better sales, maybe streaming as well from XCloud and PsNow can help next gen budgets due to increased sales.

I don't think making the XBox more appealing and increasing sales has to come at the expense of PS5 or PC software or hardware sales.

Generally we need to hope next gen starts off strong on all platforms maybe even bite the streaming bullet in hopes gaming as a whole grows.

Don't forget at the end of the PS360 gen everyone was saying traditional gaming would die off in favour of mobile trash.

NPD analysts BTW have said AA games like Nier or Seriko have become much more viable because digital has allowed them to bypass the old school retail cycle which was fairly short. While digital allows for a more "'steady" and long term sales cycle, naturally both are needed.

Well yeah that's a given, games are cycled out of retail circulation where digitally they're always available and people will eventually stumble upon them even years down the line.

They're averaging 7.8 million annually.  They're at 41 million as of January of this year, and Xbone released November 2013.

EDIT: A typo.

They were between 41-44 million at the end of 2018, that's a 5 year period. 41 million would be an average of 8.2 million per year, 44 would be an average of 8.8 million a year.

How in gods name did you come to 6.8 lol

Other consoles are closing in one close to 20 million a year, and people are arguing over a fucking million a year. It's a waste of time, 7 million or 8 million. It's irrelevant.

No, I'm not fixated on a single analysts figures.

Don't even try to come at me, you're the dumb shit who just thought it had been 6 years and tried to average that.

"industry insiders" :lawl:

Bitch, he's just an analyst, he's like any other analyst. He's not special he just posts on a forum, and different analysts come to different figures the only difference between them is they're professionals and release reports instead of shitting up the internet with Twitter memes. You fags fixate on the lowest figures and never anything else, a smart person would focus on a range of information from multiple sources and no it's not VGChartz.
