Digital Foundry - MK 11 Analysis - All consoles.

Recommended Posts

Verdict..... impressive on all consoles including Switch :whew:

Gameplay 60fps on all systems.

Fatalities, crushing blows etc - 30fps on all consoles.

Switch Docked 720p during 60fps fighting gameplay... dips down to during Fatalities and Crushing blows.

updated summary;

PS4/XB versions are 40 GB. Switch is 20 GB. Cut's in pre rendered encodes and texture quality.
- Arguably the closest port of a PS4/XB game to a Nintendo console yet.

PS4/Xbox:
- PS4: Native 1080p (potentially dynamic, but no signs observed)
- XBO: Native 1080p but drops to upto just under 900p during game play.
- Pro: Cut-scenes run at 1800p. Game play 1260p to 1440p.
- XBX: Certain cut-scenes run at 2160p. Game play runs at 1620p to 1800p.
- In terms of visual comparison, outside of resolution not much different.
- Base consoles have more dithering on motion blur compared to Enhanced. Other things are like-for-like.
- Consoles locked to 60 FPS (with XBO showing minor tearing). Tearing and intro/outro locked to 30 FPS.

Switch:
- Special geometry reductions made to get game running at 60 FPS.
- Character select only shows 2D images instead of 3D models unlike other versions.
- Docked: Dynamic resolution from 720p to 540p. Lower drops happen during intro/outro and fatalities
- Portable: Dynamic 480p to 384p.
- Almost everything is reduced to reach 60 FPS (no motion blur, lower quality post process, lower res dynamic shadows, specular properties etc,).
- Hair and alpha effects suffer stifling.
- Docked Performance is generally the same with a few drops during game play, and bad frame pacing at 30 FPS moments with some added drops.
- Portable Performance doesn't run quite as well, ranges fro 45 to 60 FPS in some cases.

another impressive port for Switch :dame:

If next gen has 24 gigs,.that mean 20 vs 3 usable in Switch lol

So you're assuming this model of Switch is the final model?

Every single editorial source feels so bad for the switch that they're trying to make that version sound better than it is. Im watching the gb quicklook, and the downgrade is SIGNIFICANT. Lower resolution, shading/actual lighting is almost non existent, less detail, flat particle effects. Its a mess.

Here's Switch's reality because Goober is being coy :hest:

  • 720p to 384p resolution, the lowest resolution recorded in any game on Switch
  • 3D models removed in character selection screen in place of pictures of characters
  • Custom low poly geometry introduced only on Switch
  • Custom low resolution texture maps
  • Settings which have been dramatically stripped and fall below even the lowest settings possible on PC in every capacity
  • Can't even maintain 60 FPS

Impressive :whoo:

That DynamiteCop spin:mj:....

I'm being coy? ... check the OP for updated full summary.

Docked runs at 720p for fighting gameplay and dips to 540 for Fatalities and Crushing blows.

Point is... Docked runs at 720p at 60fps just like I said it would...

You expected sub HD gameplay at 30fps...wrong again :rofls:

Yes it's impressive for Switch just like digital foundry said.

Digital Foundry - Arguably the closest port of a PS4/XB game to a Nintendo console yet.

There's nothing impressive about the Switch result because it's a net negative on every front, it can't even hold 60 FPS. The fact that it's running on Switch doesn't make it an impressive feat, the fact that it's trying to run at 60 FPS doesn't make it an impressive feat, getting a product running on weak hardware doesn't make something impressive.

What makes something impressive is when it shatters expectations and in turn breeds a product which subverts what is viewed as possible with the hardware and has a generally positive outcome. Red Dead Redemption 2 is arguably the best looking game ever released, it being native 4K on Xbox One X on the back of that reality is impressive, it shouldn't feasibly be able to do that but it is.

This is running at settings which fall below even the lowest possible settings you can configure on PC, stripped lighting, shadows, effects, they had to gut certain environmental assets, they had to introduce custom low poly models, they had to implement custom lower resolution textures, they had to gut the 3D character selection screen in place of images, it's targeting 60 FPS and it's the only system where that is a target and not an assurance even in the face of all its concessions, it can't persistently maintain it. It runs at a low of 540p docked and a low of 384p in handheld.

That's not impressive, it can't hold its framerate, they stripped the game to such low levels they're not even configurable on PC and fall below anything possible there, they had to introduce version specific geometric and graphical changes which are not shared anywhere else and it's running at the lowest resolution seen in a console video game since the mid 90's.

This isn't impressive, it's abysmal.

LMFAO even the gb guys turned on the game. The krypt looks like a high res PS2 game, no joke. It also just crashed on them and they're now laughing about how they've never seen a switch game crash before :D

Yea the Krypt is trash....this Analysis was specifically for the fighting gameplay

Your wall of text is filled with so many spins and half truths.  Luckily the DF analysis is there for everyone to listen to the commentary.

They clearly say fighting gameplay is 720p and it only dips to 540p for fatalities and Crushing blows.

Not only that... he said docked is 60fps... he experienced a dip to 50s with ONE FIGHT... but everything else was 60.

You expected sub HD gameplay at 30fps.... the game runs 720p and 60fps....

DF - Impressive for Switch :cmpunk2:
