Microsoft paid $13.2 million for Psychonauts 2's publishing rights from Starbreeze, own it fully - Still publishing it for PS4

Pathetic.

Quote

More recently, Psychonauts 2 was signed by Starbreeze, in a deal worth $8 million in development funds. The Swedish publisher's recent financial problems cast doubt on whether that commitment would be honoured, however, and the Microsoft acquisition involved $13.2 million for the Psychonauts 2 publishing rights.

This, Minecraft Dungeons, and Outer Worlds as only on Xbox titles would have really helped the console not look like a dumpster fire.

Forza Horizon 4 (win 10, Xbone) - Sept 2018

CrackHead 3 (Win 10, Xbone) - Feb 2019

Gearsjw 5 (Win 10, Steam, Xbone) - sept 2019

Ori 2 - (Win 10, Steam, Xbone) - march 2020

pathetic release calendar. They need 3rd party exclusives and moneyhats to pad this out. it's ridiculous to not at the very least FORCE these new studios to be exclusives.

"First of all, our existing commitments to backers of Psychonauts 2, or any other agreements we've made, will be fulfilled," Schafer said. "So whatever platform you chose to receive your copy of Psychonauts 2 on, for example, you'll still get it."

Once those agreements have been satisfied, however, Schafer said the studio would be focusing on, "Xbox, Game Pass and PC."

So Xbox just paid $13.2 million for a game and they knowingly kept it a multiplat.

We've seen this SAME EXACT scenario before with the Epic Games Store........they got the rights to a game that was on kickstarter, they told them "its on our store, and you can't get it anywhere else"

We know that there is no legal ramifications for doing this, because EGS just did it.

So that means Microsoft could have made this an exclusive...........and they knowingly did not.

LOL, their future games will be on GamePass........and gee I wonder what MS will do with putting GamePass on other places than Xbox and PC.

They paid for the developer and are honoring their existing obligations and agreements.

Why exactly is this shocking? Oh, because you're Jerry, you're a sheep and everything is about dramatics.

  • Outer Worlds Is from a presently owned developer but already contractually obligated to a different publisher
  • Minecraft was already a multiplat released on every manufactured platform before aqusition
  • Cuphead is not owned, funded or published by them
  • Banjo in Smash is absolutely nothing, it's a set of characters which have historically appeared on the Nintendo 64, it's fan service and nothing else
  • Psychonauts 2 is already obligated to crowd funded backers, it would be a PR nightmare if they canned this
  • Wasteland 3 is AGAIN another crowd funded game, PR nightmare
  • Bard's Tale is already released on everything and predates their aqusition

Why are you so dumb?

The fact that they COULD have given you an exclusive. But they thought about making money.......and they apparently don't trust their own Xbox consumers to make any money.

This is Microsoft, we're talking about..........they used to strong-arm indie developers into releasing on Xbox and only Xbox as a timed exclusive.

Their pull clearly isn't the same as it used to be.

It's not about money, do you realize how fucked it would be if they pulled this game from people that funded its very existence. That would be a bullshit move.

If it wasn't about money.................they'd buy exclusives to give to THEIR OWN customers.

This is just too easy. LOL None of your logic works...........absolutely none of it.
