Quad Damage 1,725 Posted June 22, 2019 Share Posted June 22, 2019 (edited) 1. the death of wiiu cant top a console death. unlike the dreamcast, it will not be remembered fondly. 2. the death of xbox exclusives cant top a console death, but abolishing exclusives is pretty close. before this gen, think about how unfathomable the idea of a console without exclusives or going an entire gen without a aaae wouldve been. exclusives are the lifeblood of systemwars and the real world differentiator between various platforms. the console might not be dead, but without exclusives, it might as well be. 3. the cancellation of scalebound of all the xbox cancellations and failed hopes and dreams, this was the big one. a true exclusive by a legendary japanese game designer, this was supposed to be "xbox one's bloodborne." a system seller that xbox fans could retreat to and xbox detractors would have to begrudgingly acknowledge: "well, it still has scalebound." after it was canceled, you knew there was no coming back for this platform. 4. the anthem-xbox marketing deal and xbox one x platform of all the xbox one x digital foundry losses, this was the big one. a big budget multiplat, this was revealed as an xbox one x "next gen is here" experience. a system seller that would make people want an x even if just for multiplats. not only was the game trash, but it was best on pro. this is xbox one x in a nutshell - a lack of showpieces, routinely outperformed by ps4 pro, a failed attempt to revitalize a flagging brand. 5. the xbox one price dropped 3 months after launch and the death of kinect with middling 1st party, inferior 3rd party, a gimmicky kinect accessory, and $500 price tag, xbox one was the worst value propostion from jump. consumers agreed, and when ms dropped kinect and the price of its sku by $100 just 3 months after launch, it not only left egg on the face of all early adopters, it all but sealed the fate of kinect and its promises to bring minority report style interfacing into the home. honorable mentions - xbox one reveal, epic games store Edited June 22, 2019 by Quad Damage Quote Link to post Share on other sites
