Matt Booty: Ninja theory will remain doing small-scope AA games, 'perfect for gamepass"

stolen from reefsetera.

Remember when people were hyping up Matt Booty as the guy who right the ship for MS 1st party? This dude's even WORSE than Phil Spencer.

Somebody at MS... please, shut these guys up! they do so much damage every time they just open their mouths. Why do they keep doing these interviews? Are they really just trying to tell the few remaining Xboners to jump ship now or forever hold your peace?

Every single person here should be worried like hell if MS is going to buy a developer you like.

They have 0 intention of growing these studios, they're going to stagnate and keep making small-scale projects.

The delusion that hellblade 2 on an MS budget could attain the quality level of God of war... :rofls: That's all out the window now.

All MS cares about is subscription numbers. They can give two shits about the quality of their products. It’s been pretty obvious the trajectory this company is heading.

This. Xbox and Windows are the worst.

Hellblade was a small and quickly iterated AA game, what's wrong with this?

people were hoping MS was going to pump NT with an actual budget this time, and give xbox a god of war competitor.

Not happening now. just more straight to dvd trash.

these guys signed a deal with the devil. a real publisher could have propelled them to the next level.

They made Hellblade with 15 people and $10 million dollars in 2 years. They have ten times the employees now and a much larger budget, we'll see great things from them.

I had made a thread about this a couple months back saying this was my major concern with MS' new model. If you want to focus of a GP sub model than the current way of releasing first party AAA games just doesn't fit anymore. You need smaller, most consistent flow of content because you care more about ppl keeping their sub then just subbing for a month of 2 because a GOTY esque game is released.

It doesn't need to be a concern though, they'll have their AA games for interim releases and then staple AAA games.

This really just means keep the focus of the game tight.  With AAA games it's easy to lose sight of the core of what you're trying to accomplish... look at Star Citizen for example..  Keep the team focused and able to push out a high quality mid sized game.

I feel like that's exactly what Ninja Theory should be doing.  Now isn't the time to give them an unlimited budget... nothing says that they could manage that yet.  They have to build up slowly over time.
