What are your thoughts on the Unity Engine?

Recommended Posts

My job has me making a few applications on Unity. Before we did a VR training app for auto repair. Unfortunately it was scrapped so right now they got me making a simple sim for battery testing.

I made a few test games, nothing big.

Currently downloading Unreal Engine to check it out.

I played around with it a couple of years ago and while it was a cool engine their business model kind of ruined it (locking the advanced graphics features behind a paywall was laughable). I've messed around with UE4 here and there since it was released and I prefer it.  It had more features and gave you more power right from the start all for free.

Im sure Unity has improved and AFAIK its still more widely used by indie developers (helps that it has a massive asset store and years worth of tutorials and training materials) but i havent kept up with it.

It was a terrible Kickstarter used engine that now apparently doesn't suck.

it's got some improvements the past couple of years..
