GeorgeW1000 118 Posted December 11, 2019 Share Posted December 11, 2019 What entails the graphics debate nowadays? Graphics are much better than they used to be, almost photorealistic. They've come a long way since far cry. So what would "good graphics" mean now that systems can't one up each other and have graphical superiority? I think that the graphics debate has changed from being something that looks the most real, to something that has the best art direction. Photorealism is nice, but is it necessarily preferable when we can achieve nice graphics on every system? Will "good" graphics necessarily mean something looks the most realistic or something that has the best taste, the best look? People make fun of art games, but I think the old graphics debate is dead, replaced by the new graphics debate. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Yes, we should want and expect the AAAs of each console like Halo, Mario, and Uncharted to be the power showcases for their respective hardware. However, just because a game doesn’t do that doesn’t mean it can’t be successful or beautiful like Ori or Cuphead. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
