Yeah pretty much. I’m glad I made it through high school without social media or even cell phones even being a thing. At most dumbasees had pagers.

I had a pager lol. I had the internet when I was a teenage but it was very new. I used it mostly to look at static porn pictures on freeones.com lol. It wasn't until I was like 18 and moved out that I found out what it could be used for, like downloading dreamcast games.

But in highschool there was no social media. The internet was new. Nobody really talked about it and not many people had it.  I was using 56k to play Quake on Dreamcast in my late teens.

double-edge sword   pros: access to information is easier; you can make friends from across the globe and keep in touch with distant loved ones; streaming has changed tv for the better

My first phone was in high school. It was basically a nokia brick. Small but had a cool feature that allowed me to create my own ringtone. Literally had a piano editor. It was just beeps in different tones. But I made the sound from “nuthin but a g thing”. I became the coolest kid on the bus that day...

I had one too hagaha. It was unactivated and I just carried it to look cool and look at the time. The cringey loser stuff people did when they were younger haha

i hated the internet back then because it was slow, used up the phone line and my moms and brother would always bitch for me to get off so they could use the phone.

and yeah you’re right at the end/beginning of the century nobody used the internet. What a crazy ass time that’ll never happen again. I enjoy the internet but at the same time I’m glad I grew up in a time where it didn’t exist. These days kids are born with an iPad in their hands

Sure when I was young I played a lot of games and stuff...but id also spend 8 hours in the woods, pretending to be an explorer, or playing hide and seek, riding bikes until the street lights came on and hearing my mom scream my name 10 houses down. Playing kickball and climbing trees. So different from now.

Literally it was the Wonder Years.

Yup. Same here. I would bike, skateboard, play sports, hit the beach, mack to chicks at mall etc.

video games are what we did if it was raining, or I had an hour or two before bed.

today’s kids have no idea what they are missing out on.

to be fair times are either crazier now, or parents are too overly protective. My parents said when they were young they used to walk miles alone with their friends and go to the theatre, go to the park. When I was young I used to do the sane. Nowadays I know parents who won’t let there kids leave the front of there house.

there was a study that every generation the distance they allow there kids to travel with their friends is diminished

See, I had not watched this video since it got posted a couple of months ago. So i finally got around to watching it.

He starts out by being very right on certain things, especially that the comments section comparing them to forum posts that looked very unique, and how reddit and youtube comments are now bland.

But ultimately he starts whining about social media sites that he doesn't own, and especially youtube.

And he posting videos of youtube creators whining about youtube.......and those are people that are trying to MAKE MONEY from being youtubers.

I don't trust the opinion of those people. That's like showbiz people whining about them having a show cancelled on NBC, or ABC, or CBS. Like as if they DESERVE to have a show on those major networks.

Have people not figured out that youtube is absolutely incredible in what it does. Uploading MILLIONS of hours of HD content within minutes, having the servers to upload so much data so quickly, and then being able to compress that video super quickly so that millions can be watching your video within minutes, and they do this every day?  For free? And you can even make money from advertising revenue?

The first thing any logical person would ask is: "What's the catch?"

We know what the catch is. Youtube owns the content, and can shut you down for whatever legal or commercial reason they deem fit.

This guy eventually starts sounding like its unfair that these corporations.......do corporate things........with the massive websites that they control.

At this point, there needs to be some way to host your videos and, like a torrent file, share the bandwidth and data hosting duties across other individual users using their computers/devices so that you can have your own youtube/myspace channel that truly allows you to be free.
