Not to mention the obvious business sense in this. If you have a cash cow like Fortnite you want to funnel that money back into the business not leave it as pure operating profits to get taxed on.

60% higher than forecasted...    DynamiteCop - "it flopped"

Zero GP sub figures Zero GP revenue figures   GP massive success

13 months and the equivalent of 4.18 million sales at $60 spanning the entire store.

Ouch, that's pretty bad. I would have expected Borderlands 3 to do pretty close to that by itself.

Decent considering they give everything away for free.

All they care about right now is building on that 108m customer numbers. First get ppl use to the store then you get the sales later.

Exactly.

They're making money.  Fortnite made over 1.8 Billion last year....  The store isn't going away :tom:

They're building on the user base by enticing people with free games.. and as new systems come online people will start using the store more and more.

They are happy to run up their expenses in a method that is building the first legitimate competitor Steam has ever had.

It's hilarious that someone like Dyno can't see the clear obvious method used when MS is literally using the identical one with GP by taking the early hits and basically giving it away for free just to get ppl through the door. Difference here is EGS still reports actual sales and traffic figures while MS says nothing.

That's not a 108 million customer number, that's 108 million people that of which probably 100 million of them are there for Fortnite and free games and maybe, MAYBE 8 million of them have spent money on other games.

Even then that's still only like $31 spend per person. The whole thing is an abysmal flop, there's like nobody using it and actually spending money.

Sweeney has probably spent over a billion dollars giving away free video games, so that 680m in revenue probably means he had an operating loss.

But as others have mentioned.......Sweeney is probably also cou8nting the amount of money Steam didn't make, and he's also counting how many Epic Games accounts were created, and he can track and see if they ended up downloading and playing Fortnite, because that increases his chances of earning money and creating new revenue.

The whole goal here was getting more people to open and use the Epic Game Store application more and more regularly, and Sweeney has accomplished that.

The EGS has grown more at this point than Steam has two years into that.

Why do you guys make battlefields from out of where there is none to be made?

Steam Store

Epic Store

Origins Store

Activision Blizzard Store

Uplay Store

Rockstar Store

Microsoft Store

If you want to the experience all of PC game world you are going to have venture out to a different store.

I was joking because these people need to argue about that bullshit. And there is no war at all, it's just competition between companies.

Isn't it obvious?

In case no one wants to do the math in its 13 months of operation they have sold what is the equivalent of 4.18 million games at $60.

In other words spanning the entire store and everything they offer they matched the equivalent of a moderately well selling single AAA game on Steam.

Wow :mj:

Remij and Jon you guys are fucking idiots. Like I said the whole EGS illusion was a marketing assault, them competing with Valve was an illusion, they are a paper tiger. This science experiment by Tim Sweeney is a total disaster.

Is the average cost of a game on the Epic store $60 dollars? :mjpls:

That doesn't matter, if it were that would only be fucking 4.18 million games sold over 13 months.

It's perspective, as noted that's about what a single moderately well selling AAA $60 game on Steam does, and EGS has 222 games that this relative spend is spread across.

It's a fucking flop, this is some Stadia level shit.

No it doesn't matter because the spend is the same, and it's fucking abysmal no matter which way you frame it. God you are such a moron.

Who cares what they say their forecast was? The amount of money is still terrible completely detached or attached to that statement.

There's 222 games on that store, it's 2020, PC gaming is more active than it's ever been and by leaps and bounds, they bought up exclusivity on PC for a bunch of big games and the gross spend was still only $251 million? I mean what kind of drugs are you smoking?

That's beyond terrible, this cannot be spun into a positive when you break down the numbers, it's impossible. Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry V alone on Steam exceed the entirety of what their store made across 222 games in the entire year, and they did it in less time.

You're not being retarded, you are retarded.
