XSeX will REQUIRE propietary storage for all next-gen games. External HDDs will only work for older games.

The PS5 will be the same. It's crazy we are getting very fast SSDs next gen anyways, this bitchfest isn't justified.   They have no other choice like Dynamite pointed out.

yes there is... don't make it a propriety.  Use the same cards but the non proprietary option.

A potential downside of the proprietary NVMe SSD, however, is that buyers will likely only be able to purchase the SSD cartridges directly from Microsoft or official partners. Meaning you likely can’t just purchase third-party alternatives that could potentially be cheaper or more readily available.

There's no other option you morons, the drive has to operate at a specific speed no less than what the internal does to ensure proper loading and caching.

With current gen consoles they used the lowest denominator of HDD's, that's not the case here. Here its core to proper system operation and has to meet a certain specification.

Why do you think Sony had cartridge patents...

seems like they partnered with seagate to produce these drives. Pretty much 99% of external hdds sold are seagates.

It has to be proprietary in design or as Aza noted people would buy storage which falls below the system requirement and fuck themselves over.

How isn't this obvious to you?
