Does anyone use the Readyboost feature on their PC?

well I guess it really depends on your hardware specs any way.  Some laptops run quite optimum on HDD while others don't.  

 

My Mid 2012 Macbook Pro using a 2 core / 4 thread Core i5 been lightning fast since I replaced it's original 512GB HDD with a 512GB SDD 3 years ago, and maxed out the DRAM to 16GB before that. 

 

My DELL Inspiron 5000, I bought on Black Friday in 2016 uses a 2 core / 4 thread Core i3  with 8GB of DRAM and 1TB HDD with Win10 Home and it actually never showed any signs of sluggishness like previous laptops I had.   

 

Readyboost was something I played around with back on my old XPS M1210 that I used between WinXP and Win7.  I still have it, it runs off a 512GB HDD that is super slow now.

its actually a lot better with windows 10, they suggest using a card or stick that is equal to your ram or 3x as much. The stick im using is 150mbs 32gb, the laptop has 12gb ddr3 i5 something something.. was struggling to do basic tasks. Its MUCH smoother now.

Wut? Its an external ssd. 440mb write and read speed. A regular flash drive is like 90-100mb

Cooke...  sigh.   You are using the wrong words to describe stuff.    There are USB Flash drives (aka Flash drive, aka thumb drives) that is what you just bought.  There is a such thing as a External SSD, that is not what you shown.  These are External SSDs.   

 

When I saying 'SSD', I am referring to internal storage solid state drives (SSD).   they been around for a decade, they are inside modern day computers, and come in a variety of types:

2.5" SATA SSD  (I pictured in the earlier post)

M.2 SATA SSD  (pictured here

M.2 NVMe SSD. (pictured here)


Furthermore,  USB Flash Drive have been around for at least 2 decades, it has a variety of types (Type A, B, Mini, Micro, C) which have gone through several generation (see list below). 


Each new USB gen brought improved read/write speed, power delivery, etc that (I'm bolding this because this is the most critical part) are only achieved if you match the USB gen type with a computer (desktop/laptop) that has the same rated USB ports of that generation, otherwise your USB Flash drive will run at the reduced speed of the port or may malfunction if it requires the higher power delivery provided from newer USB gen ports (although this usually the case with other USB external devices not typically USB Flash drives, those will just run slower). 

 

Again. The link you posted of your purchase is a USB Flash Drive.   A USB 3.1 type drive, which is the most current USB gen for type A and should deliver up to 10GBps (1250Mbps) speed again PROVIDED IF  your computer has a USB 3.1 rated port. Below are USB speeds by generations. 

 

USB 1.0 (1.5 Mbps)

USB 1.1 (12 Mbps)

USB 2.0 (480 Mbps)

USB 3.0 (5 Gbps / 625 Mbps)

USB 3.1 (10 Gbps / 1250Mbps) 

USB 3.2 

 

Solid State Drives have also gone through several generations as well, improving with faster speeds. 

 

SATA I (1.5Gbps / 187.5Mbps)
SATA II (3Gbps / 375Mbps)
SATA III (6Gbps / 750Mbps)

M.2 SATA (6Gbps / 750Mbps)

M.2 NVMe gen3 (28Gbps / 3500Mbps)

Its a compact external ssd. It is literally described as a SSD in the description. A typical flash drive does not say that :smugd:

Acer with an i5 and 12gb of ram and a very slowass hdd
