Half-Life Alyx sold over 860,000 copies in its first week

Half-Life: Alyx performed modestly by the standards of AAA games but was a blockbuster by the standards of virtual reality (VR) exclusive titles. A total of 860K gamers played the PC VR title in March. The game had a limited addressable audience, as there was an install base of fewer than 4M PC-compatible VR headsets at the end of 2019. Direct purchases of Half-Life: Alyx generated $40.7M in revenue, and hundreds of thousands of free copies of the game were also bundled with devices like the Valve Index headset to boost interest in VR.

Lol VR's janky ass physics are hardly impressive. They managed to take HL2's physics, which were groundbreaking for their time and actually make them worse.

There are literally dozens of objects that have completely unrealistic gravity and physics applied to them. You can pick up stuff that should be heavy but somehow manage to turn it 180 degrees in your hand and then throw it across the room like its a rubber ball. Thats the problem with VR thats not even exclusive to this game, most of these interactions never feel realistic even though thats what the technology is supposed to be striving for.

Everything has proportional weight, your hands slip off of things that are too heavy to move, there are things which are incapable of being moved with one hand but with both can be.

That has nothing to do with the fact that the way things move and collide with each other is completely unrealistic. A full blown HL3 with a physics engine not gimped by VR would be far superior, and anyone who thinks otherwise must be delusional.

lmao and he goes on about how VR's main goal is striving for realism... when in fact that's wrong.  VR currently is striving for IMMERSION.  Oh yea.... that game about aliens and gravity gloves and zombies sure is striving to be realistic!!!

So fucking stupid.  And the physics are fine in the game.  Your setup probably makes what issues there are worse... and that wouldn't surprise me coming from someone who struggled to get Geforce Now working for like an hour.
