I don't think it's going to going to happen. They killed Lockhart and instead decided on a 12-24 month crossgen period with the Xbox One so all price points could be available.

By the time they phase the Xbox One out they'll be in a better position to discount the Series X so it can consume the whole of the Xbox market. You also have to remember they will without a doubt have an all digital Series X as well.

Damn, going by your predictions success rate, this mean lockhart = basically confirmed :laff:

13.5 to 7.5 RAM is brutal._. Scorpio has 9 usable.

:cosby2:

7.5GB of RAM is perfect for what the console will be designed for.  1080p next gen games.  512MB for the OS @1080p, and 7.5GB for games.  That means the console can completely swap RAM in 3 sec as compared to 5.4 sec of the Series X.  Also, considering MS' push for better texture compression and the fact that it will support Sampler Feedback Streaming where only the texture data for each texel is required to be loaded into memory when needed, means that MS is going to get FAR more out of that 7.5GB than any current gen console lmao.

This thing is 100% going to be built around delivering any next gen game at 1080p.

Next gen already has issues impressing, imagine when this shits out a 900p blurfest.

Not matching Scorpio's RAM amount and relying on the SSD is a joke in itself. With 4tflops and less RAM it will probably run games at base One setting for BC, not even Scorpio settings. The whole system is a ghetto fest.

God damn you have no understanding of hardware at all :tom:

Yeah games designed around 9 gigs of ram will magically load into 7.5 gigs of RAM with zero optimization around the SSD to compensate.

First off, no Xbox One games are designed around 9 GB of RAM... not even One X games.   Any Xbox game will run easily on the new console at a 1080p/1440p framebuffer.

Anyway, there's talk of the new Xbox consoles having an implementation of AMD's High Bandwidth Cache Controller (HBCC) which would have the system itself automatically utilize storage as a Pagefile buffer to cache stuff that would be stored in VRAM normally.  The new console's storage would be plenty fast to be effectively used as a cache.. and the system itself on a hardware level could manage that cache and load only what is needed.

Remember MS spoke about how they added hardware into the Xbox One X to monitor how developers utilized memory and how they realized that most of what was actually sitting in memory wasn't even being used?  Raja Koduri said the exact same thing when they announced the HBCC and explained what it does.  It's specifically designed to help reduce the amount of RAM necessary and efficiently utilize that memory and maintain a high level of performance in games requiring more memory than is physically available.

Everything around Lockhart will be designed around efficiently utilizing its resources to play next gen games at 1080p and possibly 1440p.  Will likely have some fancy upscaling options as well.  No Xbox One game, and no Xbox One X enhanced game is going to have issues running on Lockhart... relax :hest:
