Twinblade★ 4,212
If you're getting fiber internet, thats the device that connects to the fiber optic cabling from the outside, and then it allows for the connection to your modem on the inside.
jehurey 3,318
Optical Network Terminal. This is usually for fiber optic cable tv and internet. Its a white box that is installed either just outisde the house, or installed on an inside wall of the house. It converts the fiber optic signal, and breaks it apart for the TV signal, and the Internet signal, and the Phone signal. You need to have that box, and if you live in a home that doesn't already have one (or has an old outdated one), they have to do some wall drilling and install that hardware. I've called before to complain about it the charge before, and thats because they originally told me that my existing ONT would work, but the installation guy said I needed a new ONT, and therefore they charged me. So I said that wasn't fair, and they agreed.
