Buying a TV for next gen?

Recommended Posts

I'm renovating the back living room in my house, currently running power and HDMI 2.1's in the wall so I can wall mount a 55" TV on the wall. (If you guys seen my current setup, in one of the living room's at least, I would probably get laughed off this site. Current TV sucks balls).

I have roughly $5-600 to drop on a new TV but it isn't getting me very far. Looking at the console specs and doing a bit of research, ideally I want something with a 120 Hertz refresh but will compromise to 60, as well as decent level HDR and of course 4k.

Anyone bought anything good recently? :lupe:

I watched IGN 'buying a TV for next gen video, they settled on a LG OLED C9' I believe. It costs $1300. I just couldn't piss that away on a TV, rather book a Holiday somewhere.

I won't even think about buying a new TV until HDMI 2.1 is firmly planted into the mainstream.

I'm not that clued up on this shit but it seems like only really 8K is going to utilize 2.1?

If so that will take the PS6 or XBOX X SERIES S-X ONE X BOX

It's not about 8K. More about eARC, ALLM, 120fps@4K, HDR, VRR, etc.

OK cool, this is what I'm really after for a good price but it doesn't seem to come up for less than $1000. :mjcry:

It's going to be some time before prices come down for HDMI 2.1 spec'd TVs.

BTW 55" C9 was on IN-STORE sale at  Samsclub for $700 this week. It's not shown in online ads, depends on your specific store so it's a crap shoot.

Not sure if it thats a good price for it, but it has some nice stats.

I wouldn’t like 4K displays either if it meant my frame rates would be in the single digits

That's not why, I have a 4K tv but it's shitty and not even close to this C9.  I prefer UW, immersive fov (display 2 feet infront), and much better ms. Just subjective, not really something worth debating. That being said I'll still get one if I can find one on sale, but its not really a priority.

P.S. PC won this gen.
