I'm sure there's an alternative reality where all of the lemming fantasies came true. MS bought EA, Nintendo, Sega, Valve, and Ubisoft. Sony went out of business, all faucets have Mountain Dew, and Sargeant Nelson has an onlyfans

Same way spider-man is exclusive to PS4.

It could happen, but that wouldn't be how it would work. Sony owns the certain rights to Spiderman, which is even Marvel needs Sony to sign off on Spiderman being in the MCU.  So they can develop a Spiderman game on their own. Warner Brothers owns the Batman IP, not Warner Games. MS just can't make their own Batman game without Warner Brothers' say so.

IP ownership in regards to all these developer's would all be lost. Even Mortal Kombat is owned by WB as far as I know. Outside of publishing rights for current games, moving forward whoever purchases them will either need to licence the IP off WB or have the devs work on something new which loses a shit ton of value. Netherealm without MK or Injustice, meh.

Warner Interactive owns the rights to a Batman game. If Xbox owns Rocksteady they can make whatever exclusive Batman game they want. That doesn't stop WB from making another Batman game with another developer but MS will have the right to exclusivity on the Warner interactive games.

Yeah.  If they aren't getting IP, or at least exclusive rights to games utilizing those IP, then it's not worth the amount they're going to be paying imo.  Instead, use that money to built up the teams you have, and fund new AAA IP.

Sony has film rights, they don't own anything.

Yeah, for the 4bn valuation that is being reported it simply isn't worth it cause IP usage is always going to be reliant on an external party. Much better investment opportunities out there. If they want a DC game it would be cheaper to just try get the rights to publish a game like Sony did for Spiderman.
