First day at a Georgia (USA) high school

Do you guys normally have school in August, or did they bring the kids back since they missed so much time in the spring?

Also: This would be hysterical, if it's wasn't a matter of life and death.  Honestly this presidency, should have been chock full of memes and Trump with Goya beans on the Resolute desk; not controlling the numbers, obfuscating the death & cases, and a political argument on how long you should support people who have lost their jobs.

It depends on the state and school districts really. Here in Washington they don't start until early-mid September. When I was in school in New Mexico, we'd start mid-August.

I'd say in the 80's and most of the 90's, in North Texas, school would begin at the end of August, entering September.

But I think because of the testing curriculum, and the students getting dumber, they've had to pad it out.

Man it would suck to be young at a time like this. Crucial years being ripped away from you. Imagine turning 21... or graduating last year.. or having years of college wasted on this bs...

College would be the worst. Imagine getting excited to leave and go to the dorms and experience all that shit to being stuck at home with your parents still and just doing courses online. Shit sucks for them. :(

Covid-19 deaths for people in the age range attending grade school is effectively nothing, there's no credible reason to not have schools in session. The ramifications of not having school are considerably more damaging.. There's been 233 deaths in total in the United States in the age range of 0-24 years old, 233 deaths in 6 months... Undoubtedly every single one of those deaths has been the result of some underlying and already serious preexisting health condition.

You don't quarantine the healthy, you don't quarantine people who are not at risk. This whole situation is being handled completely backward.

I guess we will see the result of this in 2 weeks.

Our kids go back after labor day. Masks are optional.  Our provincial health officer has done a great job. We only have 195 deaths total and 3700 cases. She keeps saying the virus does not spread easily from children to children and from children to adults. The health effects of keeping them out of school for an extended period of time may be worse for them psychologically.

It's not even just the health effects, what about the parents? What about crime while everyone else is at work and kids are unattended free to do whatever they want? What about single parent homes that rely on school as a method of child care during the work week?

Not having school is a disastrous proposition..

So these kids... do they live by themselves?

or do they have siblings, Mothers? Fathers? Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Friends, cousins etc.

So one kid catches it, spreads it to the entire school and then each kid brings it home...and spreads to their parents, siblings and grandparents? Etc Then what?

Either they get sick and die.. or if they don't die they're left with lifetime damage to their organs and earn a two week stay in the ICU in intubation because they can't breathe on their own.

Or yea and all their friends with some underlying consideration that thus probably would have lived a long live with... they also die too...

But yea fuck it right?

Take proper precautions outside of school, it's really simple. Someone is at serious risk? Don't expose them to people living their lives.

Quarantining the healthy and those at virtually zero risk is total retardation, the world can't stop for this dumb shit.

Hey retard you don't have to be seriously sick to spread COVID-19 (Asymptomatic) .   We're six months into this and some of you are still so ignorant.

Those are virtually ZERO risk? wtf.... bro anyone can get Coronavirus, anyone can loose their long capacity, heart issues and other organ issues post Covid19.

You cannot still be this ignorant in August, it's been around since Feb.

Are you fucking retarded? 233 deaths in 6 months... People 0-24 are virtually immune to this virus, and those that do catch it show essentially no symptoms. There's no logical reason to keep people out of school, none.

A normal flu season kills multiple times that in half the time... Stop trying to take some virtuous high ground, keeping these people out of school is brain dead logic.

Life for normal people and non-risk groups can't stop for a tiny subset of overall individuals and senior citizens. You have to discriminately distinguish who is and is not at risk and treat them appropriately, not shut down the whole of fucking society, it's flagrant stupidity.
