Schumer should absolutely threaten to eliminate the filibuster across the board for everything next year, and both Schumer and Biden should declare that they will expand the Supreme Court to 13 Justice.

Trump was talking about Ted Cruz being nominated during his speech going on* right now in Minnesota; and oddly enough, I don't think he necessarily knew about the news that just broke.

It's going to be interesting. Even if Collins, Murkowski, and Romney defect and the vote ends in a tie, Pence would cast the deciding vote. But I think you still need 51 to end a filibuster, so if all three refuse to end it, that would block a vote.

Just running through the scenarios in my head but the Republicans may want to really think about this one. If they're able to get a nominee through but they lose the White House and Senate, packing the Court suddenly becomes easier to defend for the Dems.

The most disappointing thing is that this gives Republican a new carrot for messaging and campaigning on.

 

So, right-wingers who have no choice but to see Republicans failing and looking bad, now have one issue in which they can pretend to have forgotten everything else, and just concentrate on this one subject.

 

We, in this forum, know the phenomenon first-hand, by seeing people pretending to play ignorant to a whole range of right-wing failures, and they found an issue for them to "be too busy" spending time on therefore they conveniently are unable to address everything else.

 

You can basically tell that they google about what is happening in Portland, daily. LOL

 

The Republicans will do the same with their messaging, here.

 

Hopefully the Democrats can also effectively add this to their messaging to rile up their base and the middle-ground. Basically sending the message to the moderate that RBG need an equivalent progressive woman to be nominated to Supreme Court Justice, someone who holds the same exact positions on women's issues as she did.  And Trump is absolutely guaranteed to nominate someone who will roll back those positions.
