Yakuza: Like a Dragon aligning itself with Xbox (& Gamepass) has destroyed the franchise and cheapened the value of all the games *UPDATE: NAGOSHI STEPS DOWN FROM LEADERSHIP ROLE AT SEGA

Recommended Posts

What a disaster this game's release has been. A failed marketing attempt by Xbox to delay the PS5 upgrade out of the console's launch window, combined with a new multi-format release cheapening the franchises worth by porting to PC and Xbox day one, has resulted in emergency firesales for the game, which is now already lining bargain bins. Yakuza 6 for instance, which launched as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, outsold Yakuza LAD (which is available on PS4, Bone, Boner X|S, and PC).

SEGA also sold their soul to the GamePass devil, hard-dumping all of the digital files for Yakuza 3,4,5, and 6 all at once, completely destroying any prestige this franchise had, the game is now cheapened as gamepass filler 'F2P title in the eyes of casual fans and xbox gamers.

And this is all done as Kiryu is replaced as the main character, by a new, 'edgier' hero whom is meant to usher in the new multiplatform era.

this is just so wrong on Sega's part. Looks like Yakuza as we know it is dead, i hope this isn't the end of RGG studio. :(

Nagoshi steps down after LAD flops

Microsoft claims another victim. Nagoshi shamed out of his position for penning a deal with the devil, brings shame to Japan

all of the hardcore cred this game had is dead. it used to be so cool when it was an underground Japanese playstation 4 exclusive. now they even translate the voice of the games to english, bastardizing the japanese original. These games should never have English voice.

this franchise is toast unless they can re-position the next game with Playstation and go back to the series roots. hate to say it but everything about LAD needs to be scrapped.

whoever made these decisions at SEGA needs a swift kick in the ass.

Also what happened to Conman Spencer not wanting to keep games away from others? Why break his limp-wristed 'no exclusives allowed' mantra for this game, of all games? He directly put this game in harm's way by locking it away from its home userbase and ~90% of its potential customers.

this game would have been a smash hit as a playstation 5 launch title, exclusively.

What a fiasco this has all been. Hopefully Phil will apologize after seeing these disastrous sales #'s

what a clown.

Game is down to half price already and apparently the PS5 version is a free upgrade if you have the PS4 disc. The PS5 release, 4 months later will essentially amount to a fart in the wind, taking into account how frontloaded game sales are, and apparently there is no physical copy for the PS5 in the retail channel as far as I can see.

So, generating any revenue from the PS5 version is basically not even an option. How will they recoup the disastrous sales?

I hope it was worth it, Sega. This franchise is dead on the table after this. I know we all say we want to see Xbox get exclusives, but not games we like, and especially not some substandard 3-month timed window like this. Yet another instance of gamepass watering down the industry.

The sooner Xbox disappears, the sooner we can avoid headaches like this. Yeesh.

Physical copies of past Yakuza games also selling now for pennies on the dollar on the secondhand market. The great Gamepass ISO Dump of all the past titles, in f2p/subscription format is the direct cause. The entire franchise is now cheapened as a result.

infuriating to see Gamepass's disastrous effect on physical collector's, just as I predicted.

It's all coming to a fever pitch. Any franchise gamepass pollutes will suffer the same fate, and this is what Microsoft wants. They've simply used Yakuza as their guinea pig, and have done so percisely to water down a beloved PlayStation ip.

we're entering dangerous territory. MS must be stopped.

Game pissed me off but it still owned.

I still haven't finished it yet, the last few chapters are starting to drag on and on, especially since there's barely any new side content popping up at this point.

Yeah most of the sub stories are stacked towards the early parts of the game for some reason. And the pacing does worsen towards the end, i think thats one of the problems with the turn based combat is that it makes the encounters and 'dungeons' go on for longer than they really need to.

UPDATE:https://www.resetera.com/threads/how-did-yakuza-like-a-dragon-perform-in-the-west.358324/

Disaster confirmed: Yakuza didn't even chart in the top 20. Game was a sales catastrophe and Sega is rethinking western support entirely.

Time to pull Kiryu out of retirement. This new style of game and multiplatform has been rejected.

Phil should have to pay out of his pocket to redeem this. Xbox scumbags sink another 1

Lol Yakuza 6 was an anomaly. Probably sold well because it was riding off the success of the early current gen entries, Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 1.

It was actually one of the worst entry in the franchise this gen so whatever.

If your theory was correct Judgment the only entry in the series still exclusive to Playstation would have been a success, it wasn't as far as I know,

No doubt the franchise is doing better ever since it's multiplatform, vs selling exclusively on Playstation, get real.

I remember when Yakuza 5 got a stealth release on PS3 and it was digital only... Those were hard times for the series in the west, it's doing much better now. At the very least they have enough budget to do English voice acting instead of Japanese only. lmao

only games worth more than $10 on the secondhand market now are the japanese only Yakuza Ishin! For PS4, and Judgement for PS4 - the only games that haven't been ported and dumped onto Gamepass like a $2 whore.

thanks MicroDick, and PC gaming. .ISO files on Piratebay right now for PC as well.

Xbox should have to reimburse all physical copy buyers on PS4. To Hell with gamepass, to HELL with it. What a nightmare for collector's and physical buyers who want to OWN their software.

No wonder hardcore gamers all hate Xbox and PC

He transitioned to a different role. Chief Creative Officer > Creative Director. That might actually be better for him because he can be more directly involved in game development and less in the business part of it.

Nice try though :mjpls:

Also why are you browsing resetera? :geese:

this means he's been removed from the business side where he can't make failed deals with Devil Spencer to sell out Yakuza to a bargain bin streaming service for casual xbox/PC gamers who can't afford games.
