he's just talking about how woke culture potentially affected it. it's fine.  i agree, but i also think the poor ratings are also due to the fact that 99% of people out there watched maybe like 2 or 3 of the movies nominated.

I agree with the movie part, because woke culture wasn't invented last year.

A zillion movies that were scheduled for 2020 got delayed until 2021 or later.   The few that came out were decent not great... so no reason to tune in.

Also wasn't it like a virtual show this year?

Let's revisit the numbers when everything goes back to normal.

I could be wrong but it definitely feels like the Oscars don't really give a look in to the majority of the highest grossing films of the year so it doesn't surprise me that it isn't expanding its viewership.  With some exceptions, I'm not even sure if Costume dramas (which I guess are the stereotype of what cleans up at the Oscars) generally speaking  are considered mainstream these days or have ever been really.  The Sound of Metal sounds appealing to me.  I have tinnitus in my right ear so I'd probably find something to like with it.

theyve been declining for years. No one cares about these award shows anymore. Sure it might bump up next year but not having a host really hurts the show i think.

No host, no songs, no jokes, no skits, a fuck tonne of ads, 3-4 minute acceptance speeches, lame trivia instead of movie clips when announcing nominees, and no where to stream it. What a joke.

Stream that shit and make deals with the studios to have trailer premieres during ad breaks.
