MS has very very deep pockets.  If it were any other company they would have pulled out of the VG business.    Lemmings need to thank Phil for selling the idea of GP to MS leadership and getting the full buy in from them.

back in 2019, there was already rumors of microsoft working on two console skus for the next generation, and when they asked him he said it was false, and then he changed his story to "oh, uhh........the Xbox One S All-Digital edition that we just released, yeah, that's the second sku".

 

even dynocrap was telling us that there was only one next-gen xbox sku right up until the announcement. Phil Spencer straight up lied.

if gamepass fails, they have assets to sell.

 

gamepass, the service, is not something they can sell nor would anybody be interested immediately after watching MS not succeed.

 

but third-party studios, and their game IPs? yeah you can sell those and make some of your money back if things don't work out.

They will be profitable when they have a big enough portfolio of first party titles that they won't need many 3rd party games anymore. Basically go the netflix route with a much bigger focus on original content. Even then it will be a struggle.

I read some poor bastard on neogaf try to say with a straight face:

So......just to add context.

 

Microsoft was able to convince roughly about 50 million dumbasses to pay them $400 to $500, each, during the last 5-6 years.

 

Now, Xbox fanboys have set the threshold for success at 30 million people giving Microsoft $15, AT LEAST for the first month.

 

Its become obvious that Xbox fanboys really don't know what is considered "success" when it comes to GamePass, and they appear to be moving the goalposts depending on what new information they learn, in order to try and keep saying that its "GOING TO BE" a success.

 

And here is the graph that shows that it is 100% justified to compare GamePass's growth compared to HBOmax, Disney+, and Netflix.

 

There is no excuse......why isn't GamePass growing as fast as other streaming services? If not faster?
