jehurey 3,227
Epic Games just blow a whole right out of Apple's walled prison. Quote Under the new order, Apple is: - permanently restrained and enjoined from prohibiting developers from including in their apps and their metadata buttons, external links, or other calls to action that direct customers to purchasing mechanisms, in addition to In-App Purchasing and (ii) communicating with customers through points of contact obtained voluntarily from customers through account registration within the app. In the full ruling, Judge Gonzalez-Rogers explained her thinking on the issue in greater detail. Epic came, they saw, and they conquered.
DynamiteCop 2,085
So this means Microsoft can now natively bring xCloud to iPhones and Apple can't do a damn thing about it LOL.

TLHBO 2,158
Shame, I was hoping Epic would get BTFO. Not an Apple fanboy but Epic has this slimy, sleaziness to them that I haven’t seen since Microsoft.

Epic did get fucked lol "Today's ruling isn't a win for developers or for consumers," Epic CEO Tim Sweeney wrote in a tweet shortly after the ruling. Apple applauded the judge's decision, adding in a statement that it "faces rigorous competition in every segment in which we do business."

Non-Epic developers got a decent win in that they can provide in-game buttons that link to a webpage where you can buy directly from them, but Epic wanted to introduce their own storefront on iOS and their own payment processor on iOS. Epic wanted to be the middle-man instead of Apple, but not only did the judge deny them that opportunity but the judge also ruled against Epic when it came to Epic's developer account, which means the future of Fortnite on iOS is completely in Apple's hands. It was a bloodbath.

Fortnite is going back on the App Store, and then at that point, they "buy Vbucks" button will simply open up a webpage to the EpicGames.com website. LOL Epic got the most important thing out of this. The idea that Epic was going to single-handedly be able to break open the iOS platform would've been like a dream scenario, even by Epic's own optimistic standards. And there's no worry about that, because the EU is going to fuck Apple up in that legal area, soon.

Nope, that was in the past. He is not ruling on the future submission of the Fortnite app, which will be under a different TOS because of this court ruling.

According to Judge Rogers, the termination of Epic’s App Store account is considered valid, as the game company in fact would have violated Apple’s terms and policies. For this reason, the judge will not force Apple to let Epic’s games back into the App Store. Epic Games will also have to pay damages to Apple for the time it sold in-app purchases on the iOS version of Fortnite without paying the App Store’s 30% commission. lmfao you’re an idiot per usual.
