August 2021 consumer spending across video game hardware, content and accessories grew 7% when compared to a year ago, to an August record $4.4B. YTD consumer spending totaled $37.9B, a 13% increase when compared to the same period in 2020.

Hardware was a primary driver of spending gains in August. Led by PS5, hardware dollar sales gained 45% when compared to August 2020. Mobile and Subscription pushed August content spending higher when compared to a year ago.

August video game hardware dollar sales gained 45% when compared to August 2020, to $329 million. This is the highest total achieved in a August month since 2008($395M), and the third highest August month total in history. Year-to-date hardware spending has increased 49% when compared to the same period in 2020, totaling $3.0 billion.

Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform in units during both the August month and year-to-date, while PlayStation 5leads both time periods in dollar sales.

After 10 months in market PlayStation 5 remains the fastest selling PlayStation platform in history.

:sabu: Another month with Xbox in last place while PS5 continues to have record breaking sales and revenue despite lemshits telling us that Sony is on its last legs.

Ghost of Tsushima is back on top despite the fake outrage from lemshits complaining about $10 extra for the PS5 version.

Meanwhile Psychonauts is nowhere on the charts despite lems capping for it and calling it the GOTY that they can't wait to support (it's not even on the Xbox most bought charts oof!)

maybe he meant fire sales

Xbox has neither

That 4 already, I'm already sick of it ...      Wait another Forza title? I'm no where close to being sick of those

Weren't the lemmings saying that Miles Morales was a sales failure?

MLB The Show 21 has actually been performing quite well, we're entering the final month of the baseball season, and the game is still within the Top 10 selling games in America.

And all of those are Playstation copies of MLB The Show, because the publisher says "Sony" and not "Multiple Publishers" (check the Xbox.com store page for MLB The Show, and you'll see that it has a different publisher).

This is substantial proof that people still want to buy their games and own them. And they're doing that on Nintendo and Playstation platforms.

And Sony and Nintendo are being rewarded with very generous hardware sales.

You'd imagine that if Microsoft was doing well, they would have a positive year-over-year percentage growth in their "digital services" revenues.

Yup, reality doesn’t match the bullshit narrative that lemmings and some of the stupid gaming media are trying to propagate. Nintendo and Sony’s continued dominance and success proves that the overwhelming majority of gamers prefer to buy their games and are willing to spend a premium on a platform and it’s games as long as it gives them the quality they desire.

Microsoft being unable to compete at the level Nintendo and Sony are doing has decided to rent out their mostly mediocre library of games and they are trying to change reality. The reality is that GamePass isn’t disrupting the market at all for Sony and Nintendo like Lemshits and some in the gaming media would have you believe. In fact, it’s having the opposite effect. Sony and Nintendo are making record profits and revenue at the expense of Microsoft’s stupidity and arrogance.

Lol this clown is mad that Psychonauts 2 critical reception was better than Ratshit and Clank's so now it's back to spinning sales arguments.

PS5 most praised exclusive this year, Returnal, isn't a huge blockbuster either. Sales never was a metric for quality.

Lol trying to downplay Sony charging more for 'next-gen' games for no other apparent reason than greed.

Cows are turning into Sheep, it seems.

You know dynoshit is going to come in here and try to spin this shit.

its going to be really tough to spin this.

Sony and Nintendo are selling games at a higher rate, as if the market is reacting as if that the third platform is now gone, and Sony and Nintendo games came in and took those sales.

At some point, executives are Microsoft are going to want their $7.5 Billion dollars that they spent for Bethesda back.

They're sitting there staring and Nintendo and Sony sells generous amounts of software in the dead of Summer, its not even Christmas yet.

Microsoft isn't going to compete at Nintendo's or Sony's level, they're shooting much higher than that. None of you brain-dead idiots on forums like this can read the room.

Their goal, and they don't care how much money they throw at it is to wipe everything else out. It doesn't matter what Sony does, it doesn't matter what Nintendo does. Microsoft can just keep throwing money at a problem indefinitely until unwavering success is achieved.

Why do you think they just spent 7.5 billion dollars on Zenimax and Bethesda? They are going to overflow the market and likely become the biggest publisher in the industry so they are completely impossible to ignore.

Microsoft had a DOWN YEAR in revenue for their Xbox gaming digital services.

Xbox content and services revenue decreased 4% (down 7% in constant currency)

Is this the "much higher level" that you are talking about???????????

How the hell does your business decrease 4%.........during a fucking pandemic when everybody is home?

Your tears are so delicious. You can go eat a bag of dicks with your "critical reception". You clowns didn't support the game despite hyping it to the moon.

Aren't you a member of the lemshit brigade that have been telling us critical reception doesn't matter when Sony's games are topping metacritic and winning GOTYs back to back but now they suddenly matter because MS finally has a game highly rated in more than a decade? FOH, you lemshit hypocrite and take your damage control spin with you.

This is why you're a complete and utter tool.

For people who enjoy videogames and likely consider it a lifelong hobby, why in the fuck do you expect them to cheer if a trillion dollar company with a reputation of being extremely anti-consumer and a history of shady business practices comes in, throws an unlimited amount of money at their systems until all competition is wiped out and they just start buying up company after company after company?

Lemmings really are the biggest shills of all. At this point it's not about games for you, it's about Microsoft's bottom line and their shareholders making bank. That's why you keep championing a console notorious for having no games.

You act like you're MAGA in spirit but the kind of sleazy global elites you're meant to despise you end up sucking their cock for your corporate overlords. Seriously dynaflop, kill yourself.

Microsoft has been throwing money for 20 years and aiming for the moon and all it has lead to is last place every gen.

Look at this gem from 2013....

https://www.vg247.com/xbox-one-microsoft-aims-for-1-billion-lifetime-sales-100-million-xbox-360-units

Quote

Microsoft's senior vice president of Interactive Entertainment Business Yusuf Mehdi has stated that given the broad multimedia focus of Xbox One, there's no reason why it can't shift between 400 million and 1 billion consoles in its lifetime. He said the company is also angling for 100 million Xbox 360 console sales in the next five years.

Speaking with OXM, Mehdi said of Microsoft's hopes for Xbox 360, "We believe over the next five years we can break a 100 million unit installed base. That's something we're shooting for, it's not a financial plan as such, it's just rough numbers if you will.

"To sell another 25 million, half of those will probably come from replacements, but half will come from new buyers. And the way we'll break into those segments is by hitting new price points, getting new classes of entertainment to come with the Xbox, and breaking into new customer segments. So you'll see the Xbox 360 continue to exist, even as we launch the next generation Xbox One."

On the subject of Xbox One sales and the growth of the market with the herald of next-gen formats, Mehdi continued, "Every generation, as you've probably heard, has grown approximately 30%. So this generation is about 300 million units. Most industry experts think the next generation will get upwards of about 400 million units. That's if it's a game console, over the next decade.

"We think you can go broader than a game console, that's our aim, and you can go from 400 million to potentially upwards of a billion units. That's how we're thinking of the Xbox opportunity as we go forward."

The market doesn't give a fuck about what MS wants. MS always wants outlandish things but they don't deliver, it's been the same story for 20 years now.

Lemmings are actually saying that want to be eternal renters, for the rest of their lives.

As they continue to devote hundreds of dollars every year towards the hobby, the moment they miss a monthly payment, they have nothing.

They own nothing. After all of those hundreds of dollars, the moment they stop paying.........there's nothing to their name.

What's to stop Microsoft from saying "we're raising the monthly rates" and you think it actually borders on it not being worth it, then you cancel the subscription........and you have NOTHING.

This business model simply does not line up with people who have been in the hobby of videogames for a long time. If people devote hundreds of dollars into video games, they expect to have their own cherished library of video games that they keep as a collection.

I just read that they are REMOVING Forza Motorsport 7 from GamePass.

Why?  Its fully owned by Microsoft.

Last time I checked, Libraries only GROW in what they offer........they don't LOSE books when new ones come in.

This has the same feeling of a Ponzi scheme, where the longer this goes, the more it ceases to make sense.

There are people who say "well, I'll just cancel GamePass, and when a major game comes out, I'll just subscribe for that month."

We're already seeing evidence of Microsoft chopping up their games to release it in pieces, as a response to this. The more this goes on, the less all of this makes sense.
