More than likely, the chip shortage is fucking things up right now for Super Switch being launched. Entire supply chains everywhere for everything globally is colossally screwed up right now.

Chip shortage delayed the system launch by a year + according to this article.

The reason, according to a person familiar with Nintendo’s hardware planning, was component shortages, a far-reaching problem born out of the Covid-19 pandemic

Yeah, my theory (based on nothing but speculation) is that Nintendo has been waiting on Nvidia to deliver a new-generation "Tegra" APUs based on Ampere, or something close to Ampere architecture.

Nvidia realized that whatever 8nm chips they can manufacture, they can make a bigger profit if they use all of that manufacturing time towards their RTX 3000 chips. so they left Nintendo without new APUs.

And Nintendo had the OLED screen and new dock ready to go, and they just cancelled any upcoming Switch Lite manufacturing and simply placed those mainboards inside the new OLED switch.

Its a shame.  Nintendo could also be to blame, nVidia probably told them "yeah, we can start making you those new chips for the Switch 2.0, but they won't be in large quantities and we probably have to charge a premium right now while Semiconductor manufacturing resources are tight."  And Nintendo decided to delay the Switch 2.0

The problem with delaying it is that it will inevitably cost a shit more R&D assuming Nintendo wants to keep up with tech, which Switch and several other platforms show isn’t required..

but iPhones and a select amount of androids can run games a lot better than switch. Switches GPU is 6-7 years behind the current iPhones. Of course these devices cost 3x the price but mainly due to parts that wouldn’t be included in a switch (Face ID cameras, antennas, 5g modems, etc). I’d be totally onboard for a $500-$600 switch pro with the most cutting edge mobile tech, tho Nintendo would never price it that high.
