Gamepass growth misses internal projections by over 10%

Recommended Posts

In a new financial statement, Microsoft revealed that Xbox Game Pass subscriptions rose by 37.5% falling short of its internal target of 47.8%. In contrast, last year Microsoft over-performed on its targets to grow Xbox Game Pass, increasing subscriptions by nearly 86% over a goal of 71%.

No, they're not fucked.   Sony sells gaming consoles, and games.   At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if Sony is more successful at convincing people to pay $500 for a hardware

Sink lol? It had 37% growth, it not hitting some internal target means fuck all.

actually it does.

Its their FISCAL YEAR 2021, which based on this press release:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Investor/earnings/FY-2021-Q4/press-release-webcast

It means that it covers July 1, 2020 up until June 30, 2021.

So what they are saying was that, from Summer 2019 to Summer 2020, GamePass was growing pretty rapidly.

but in the middle of the pandemic, it slowed down considerably.

This includes the most recent 18 million subscriber figure.........that was around early February 2021.

So from February 2021 to the end of June 2021, it remained anemic.

it is probably still in the lower half 20-million range.

At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if Sony is more successful at convincing people to pay $500 for a hardware console......than Microsoft can convince people to pay five measly dollars to start a GamePass subscription.

And all of a sudden..............all of that narrative established by neogaf fanboys, by youtube influencers, and by gaming journalists about GamePass being the next hottest thing that will take over............all of that narrative just flew out the window with this news.

This is cold hard money that is saying that GamePass isn't growing.

And everything else in the gaming industry suggest that people HAVE MONEY to spend on gaming products.

-Nintendo Hardware

-Sony Hardware

-Nvidia hardware

-Full-priced games

Nothing else is slowing down...........so why is GamePass slowing down?:patrice:

Sony saw a 10 million subscription loss = nothing to see here

Microsoft saw a 37% subscription increase = they're doomed

You guys get more retarded by the day

Weren't lems claiming Microsoft was at 30 million subs just a month ago?

I knew that was complete bullshit like their other claims. Looks at DynoFlop struggling to damage control this latest news :mickeyj:

GP20million.thumb.JPG.352e7cdca7113f791a2aa0d3b3e01c10.JPG

🤣 According to these new numbers they are only at 20 million subs now. Far lower than the 30 million delusional clowns like DynoFlop were running with weeks ago.

So in the middle of a pandemic when subs are being given out for free  with Pop Tarts GP is still falling short of Microsoft's internal projections?  :sabu: Nobody wants the GamePass trash rental service except starving lems who don't buy games anyway!

All that "Gamepass is the future" bullshit paraded by lems and MS shill Youtubers just went out the window. :mj: In an era where Sony and Nintendo are breaking records for software and hardware sales every month due to insane demand, GamePass subs is the only thing slowing down lol.

Yup, if we have an idea of how many GamePass subscriptions existed around Summer 2020, we can multiply that by 1.37x to determine where they are at now.

Its not 37% ABOVE their last known figure of 18 million subs.........because that was February 2021.

Its 37% above from whatever figures they were saying around June 2020.

I remember after The Outer Worlds came out, they had their biggest increase to over 12 million, maybe 13 million subscriptions., and that was around March 2020 when they announced that.

So just 3 months after that, they would've probably been around 15 million subscriptions.

37% of that is about 5-6 million subscriptions.

So they are at 20-21 million subscriptions.

They have BARELY gotten to 20 million.

There's no fucking way to spin that. That doesn't look good in the slightest.

They announced the acquisition of Bethesda

and all of its studios.

and the ownership of Fallout, of Elder Scrolls, of Doom, of Wolfenstein, of Bethesda's new IP, Starfield.

That was around this time last year, right?  Like October 2020?

And then they announced in early 2021 that its all going to be Microsoft platform exclusive., right around the time GamePass was at 18 million subs.

And its been like 6 months later, and they've BARELY scrapped 20 million?

So they spent $7.5 Billion dollars?  And GamePass is still slowing down?

Man if Halo and Starfield don't get them to the numbers they want to I can see them shutting the whole shit down in a few years. This is just embarrassing at this point. $7.5-8 billion spent and they are still slowing down lol.

why do you think they tried to double the price of XBL Gold out of nowhere a few months ago?

sooner or later, they either need to start making serious money SOMEWHERE from all of this investment.

I guarantee you, right now...........they were hoping the service were wildly growing so that they could implement a Gamepass monthly price increase.

But they can't do it right now, because they actively fear subscriptions cancelling and overall subs actually going down.

You need to start paying attention at what games are LEAVING the GamePass service.

If GamePass doesn't get them the subs that they need by 2023  - 2025, they will order Bethesda to port their games to other systems.

Or conversely just made all the acquisitions for selling them later too :mj:
