Vini 430
Quote (Bloomberg) -- Sony Group Corp. shares fell 13% in Tokyo on Wednesday, their biggest drop since October 2008, after PlayStation rival Microsoft Corp. announced a $69 billion deal to acquire games publisher Activision Blizzard Inc. The blockbuster acquisition escalates Microsoft’s spending spree to secure intellectual property assets for its Xbox Game Pass service, wiping $20 billion off Sony’s valuation in a day. The push to attract paying subscribers with an overwhelming portfolio of games challenges Sony’s traditional console business model that relies on high-profile exclusive titles and hardware sales. Games and network services account for about 30% of Sony revenue. “Sony will have a monumental challenge on its hands to stand on its own in this war of attrition,” said Amir Anvarzadeh of Asymmetric Advisors. “With Call of Duty now most likely to be added exclusively to the Game Pass roster, the headwinds for Sony are only going to get tougher.” “Sony will struggle to match Microsoft in terms of money it can spend to buy popular game IP,” Morningstar Research analyst Kazunori Ito said. “Falling shares illustrate investors are worried that Sony may not be able to keep winning if indeed the industry shifts away from the hardware-based model.” https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-01-19/sony-drops-9-6-in-wake-of-microsoft-activision-deal Cows still have no idea what's happening here. They were so sure this gen was won I can't wait for the incoming slow meltdown on this forum. Edited January 19, 2022 by Vini
Tears of the Cows 1,206
the reactions have been so good. Jerry said this is good, because without spryo and cash bandicoot, this will allow people to buy great games like…..Knack. also, PS5 now has no fps. Not to fear though…. There was always the chance to provide competition. This is just Microsoft throwing around money they cheated from decades of abusing their Windows monopoly and gaming will eventually just be Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Amazon etc with shitty streaming services. That whoever has the most money gets to buy everything else and own the world? I don't even know why I bother with you lemshits you clearly don't have the intelligence to comprehend any of this. Carry on thinking you're elite because your eletronic devices made by children in a Chinese sweatshop have a specific logo on them. I think we're in for a competitive gen that's gonna be better than the last. And Sony will be forced to launch a real subscription service with day one new games. Which is better for everyone involved. Thanks to MS paying for each new game is a now an outdated idea. Edited January 19, 2022 by Vini

Funny how gaming moving to nothing more than a subscription service became a good thing right around......ooh right around the time Microsoft put all their eggs in the subscription basket. I'm sure that's just a coincidence. They did the same with online gaming. Thats all Microsoft has ever pioneered in the industry, we've gone from full games to a subscription to play, a premium to play online, and plenty of Microtransactions along the way. Microsoft couldnt give a shit about making a quality product they just want to milk you for everything you're worth.

Keep buying these games for more than they’re worth, no one will care about you wasting your money.

Mr. House 3,371
Investors panicking had to be expected. Doesn't reflect on the actual sales though. CoD won't even be exclusive to Xbox anyway.
