They're making a new IP for Sony, and it sounds like it's going to be very ambitious.  Apparently the studio has grown rapidly to 3x the size it was before.

This will be one of the 10 GaaS games in development for Sony I'm sure.

Interesting, definitely sounding fairly ambitious. Also sounds a hell of a long way out lol

I like that Sony's strategy of entering the live service space is through either new teams or acquiring teams that already do that (Bungie) instead of forcing their other studios who specialise in other areas to do that. Seems like they might have a great balance of the current SP blockbusters they have plus a big range of online offerings.

yeah, i wouldn't like their SP-centric devs to deviate from those types of games. that is why i own a ps5.

Yea, that's very clearly their strategy regarding that.  Definitely better than dragging their SP studios down into that rabbit hole!

Speaking of that, there was also news today (and I'm going to possibly derail my own thread) that Platinum Games were looking to move towards GaaS games, instead of the "single play, well designed" games they're known for...

That's kinda depressing.  And that actually came right after Hideki Kamiya posted this on Twitter:

PG apparently received flowers and other stuff from various people from the industry for some reason or other.. and Phil Spencer was one of them.  Kamiya responded "Thanks Phil, Let's work together again"..  And it wouldn't surprise me if they wanted to partner with MS on a GamePass GaaS game in the future.

When you think about it... outside of what Platinum Games has done for Nintendo (Bayo 2, W101, and Astral Chain) ... they haven't made a good game on any other system for over a decade..  I have no faith in any GaaS games from them... so if they decide to focus on that shit, they're pretty much dead to me.  Bayo 3 itself even looked kinda rough to me.  I hope I'm wrong, but I dunno... maybe they've just lost their edge.

Nintendo should have bought them.  They get the best performance out of them, and even if Bayo would still remain with Sega, if they ever took Bayonetta away, Platinum Games could make some really cool games utilizing Nintendo IP, IMO.  Imagine a Metroid developed by Platinum.. or anything really.  With Nintendo supervision I'm sure it could turn out awesome.   This self published Tencent funded GaaS shit isn't going to give us top quality PG games.. :(

Platinum Games are too hit and miss for me to ever really get excited about their games. They definitely are most consistent with Nintendo although my fav game from theirs is Neir Automata. Outside of that though they make average ass games. They would suck ass at making a GaaS and I'd have zero interest in it, hardly have any interest in their regular games until I know it's a hit.

Platinum doing GAAS is a nightmare. Babylon's Fall is GAAS Destiny third person knock off and it looks horrible.

Yeah it's unfortunate.  I almost wish Nintendo would save them from that terrible fate.. because like I said above, I think they could do some cool shit with Nintendo's IP.

But I think Nintendo are fine with their relationship just the way it is.  They probably see no incentive to acquire Platinum Games.  They already have the best products from PG exclusive to their platform anyway lol.

They got major Tencent investment probably due to GAAS promises. They'll fail miserably btw and come begging to someone. Probably Square and Nintendo.

Tencent might gobble them up themselves anyway.

Look how bitter the lemchildren are :lul: They haven't had a real game in so long and hype up any 6.0 flop but they want to sit here and act like connoisseurs of gaming.

GTFO non-gamers. Go back to your gamepass sub 6 shovelware
