The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. We're working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we'll have on our new PlayStation Plus service.

When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now will transition into the new PlayStation Plus offering and will no longer be available as a standalone service. PlayStation Now customers will migrate over to PlayStation Plus Premium with no increase to their current subscription fees at launch”

As this is a massive launch effort, we're rolling out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In the June timeframe, we'll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered. We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022. We also plan to expand our cloud streaming benefit to additional markets, and will provide more details at a later date.”

  • Tears of the Cows changed the title to PS Spartacus details are released. (Price, Release Time, Breakdown of Tiers)

Exactly what I expected. I’ll probably get PS+ Extra. PS+ Premium isn’t worth it for me since I still own all my old consoles and have no desire to play retro games on my PS5.

I knew it wasn’t gonna be like GP and I knew Sony wouldn’t release date and date first party games on it so this reveal is exactly what I expected. Only thing that is a mild surprise is the inclusion of PSP games in the retro collection.

Edit: 700+ games for $120 a year is pretty damn good value even if some will be streamed.

I will stick to my annual ps+ Black Friday deal. Some years, it’s just $29.99. I don’t need the extra bells and whistles.

I'm gonna get PS Now and when "Spartacus" goes live it will automatically upgrade to Premium lol

Sony is giving free upgrades to PS Premium from PS Now and PS Now only costs $60/yr right now. I'll probably stack them up before their new tier service goes live

 On a funny note, PS Plus will become the largest subscription service this summer once Sony combines it with PS Now lol.

TLHBR,  even in sub services MS is doomed to last place :wow2:

I just play the occasional monthly game and I love the cloud saving.

Last I checked PS' streaming tech is a little too shitty to enjoy. It's a generation behind GeForce and Stadia.

The middle tier for $100/yr could be good, but I want to see the whole list before I consider it. I don't see this revolutionizing PlayStation the way Gamepass has done to Xbox, but I honestly don't want it to. Sony goes big with first party, and I think MS is on its way to being the Netflix of games IN A BAD WAY. Netflix original content is so clearly produced by algorithm and MS is following in that. I don't want to see that happen to PlayStation.

A clear leg up for MS is Gamepass is a pretty good service on PC. I don't see Sony playing there any time soon.

I'd need to see the list of games, but the things is that if you'd maintained PS Plus this entire time....you probably already have ALOT of the games that they would offer on PS Extra and the PSP games from PS Premium

PS Extra is almost like them offering you all of the previous PS+ monthly free games back catalogue all upfront, immediately, for new subscribers.

The other noteworthy thing is they say "PS2 and PSP games are downloadable." So that means they now have a PS2 emulator running on PS5?

There you go. They're not going to risk their high-value single-player AAA exclusives and turn them into sub-par experiences by throwing them into a rental service.

Its good to see that Jim Ryan is clearly leveraging more of the PS1-PS4 back catalogue for this rental service, rather than the important projects that they are working on now.

Yep I hope this does not change. Companies give away free games from a position of WEAKNESS. Sony started doing it when they were losing ground to the 360. Epic does it because they cannot compete with Steam. MS is betting the farm on it because they've lost every console generation they've been a part of.  There's no reason for Sony to get baited into a loser's business model.

You know, it might actually be pretty smart that Sony packs PS Extra with third-parties that are ALREADY putting their product on Xbox Game Pass.

So, like Mortal Kombat 11.

So, if Sony sees that Xbox brokered a deal with an indie developer to release their game on Day 1 for X amount of money, Sony can offer the same thing to the developer, and it shows up on PS Extra the same time it shows up on Xbox GamePass.

If a new consumer is deciding whether they want to jump into PS5 or XsX, and sees that Sony is mostly offering alot of the same third-party games on PS Extra as Xbox GamePass, then once again their own AAA exclusives are going to be what sets them apart.

Jim Ryan isn't trying to beat GamePass, or even match it, exactly. He's just trying to neutralize it just enough.

This is true. The only advantage Extra seems to have over std Gamepass is Sony claims 400 games while Gamepass claims 100. Probably it will be most of the same 3rd party games.

I bet its the PS+ free games from the PS4 era.........that I ALREADY HAVE for having had an active PS+ membership since 2014, or 2012, I forget how long I've had it active.

I already have like over 200 PS4 games and 50 PSP games, and over 100 PS3 games through that.
