Nearly all of the people the shooter targeted were Black. The gunman, Payton Gendron, was armed with a high-powered assault rifle and wore camouflage clothing, body armor, and a helmet equipped with a camera — which he used to livestream the attack on Twitch. He was later taken into custody after a brief standoff with police. In a manifesto packed with racist and anti-immigrant views that the gunman allegedly published online prior to the attack, he said he was going to try to kill as many Black people as he could and cited the so-called “Great Replacement” theory which is popular among white supremacists. Yet another far right white supremacist attack. This one seems like he was heavily influenced by the right wing "great replacement theory" that has become a bit more mainstream on right wing media. Really sad stuff. The intel community has warned that white supremacist were a top threat years ago, we certainly know right wing terror makes up a majority of domestic terror in modern history so that was not surprising. This is a hate crime and the shooter deserves no sympathy, but before you go and blame conservatives and guns it would be a good idea to look inwards towards to the democratic party and all the division they've been responsible for. The wedge between both races just gets bigger and bigger as a result of their divisive policies and the Biden administration just continues to fan those flames. Most of the people he shot was black, and he specifically chose that area due to the black population density. He specifically outlined all of this, he wanted to go kill blacks due to the great replacement theory. His writings were also riddled with racist, anti-immigrant views arguing that white Americans are at risk of being replaced by people of color, a common trope on the far-right known as the “great replacement” theory. The same ideas have motivated gunmen in several other mass shootings. He said that he felt a particular connection to Brenton Harrison Tarrant (Far right) — calling him the person “who had radicalized him the most.” Tarrant was sentenced to life without parole for killing 51 Muslims during Friday prayer at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.
