Biden signs CHIPs bill into law, semiconductor companies immediately pledge BILLIONS for chip manufacturer in the US

Recommended Posts

Again he accomplished something Trump only spoke about and couldn't deliver.

Another legislative victory for Biden.  Now America will directly take on China as a super power in semiconductor manufacturing.

Plus this will create literally hundreds of thousands of well paying jobs for Americans and drive chip prices down across the US for the future.

Thank you President Biden :salute:

whereas Trump was, or currently is, threatening the security of the United States.

He stole and was hiding NUCLEAR WEAPON classified documents.

There's another thread I just created to discuss this..

This thread is to discuss the historical CHIPs bill that will bring hundreds of thousands of new jobs to America as well as secure our place as a semiconductor chip manufacturing super power....

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger praised the CHIPS and Science Act

"President Joe Biden traveled to Ohio on Friday to celebrate the groundbreaking of Intel’s new $20 billion semiconductor plant, one of the first domestic chip-making facilities to come out of the recently passed CHIPS and Science Act.

"Intel’s Friday groundbreaking ceremony kicked off construction of what the company has called the “largest silicon manufacturing location on the planet.” It’s part of Intel’s plans to invest $100 billion in Ohio over the next 10 years. The company has said that the project could take more than 7,000 workers to build the facility that is expected to house two separate factories and, once finished, employ 3,000 workers."

The bipartisan deal to boost American innovation in opposition to growing Chinese competition in the tech industry hopes to protect US economic and national security interests following a global semiconductor shortage. The start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 fractured global chip supply chains, making it more difficult for device makers to source semiconductors for their products.

At the same time, demand for these goods surged as offices closed and people started working from home.

“As we saw during the pandemic, when the factories that make these chips shut down, chips shut down. The global economy comes to a halt,” Biden said at the Intel site Friday. “We need to make these chips right here in America to bring down everyday costs and create good jobs.”

Promises made, promises delivered :salute:

Good, we can't only rely on countries like China and Taiwan for chips. This is was a growing and worrying issue but we still require to do more mining for minerals. I don't think manufacturing is the only issue.

That Biden legislation doing work :juggle:

That's really quite amazing, and the first step in what could potentially be a huge change.

This conversation between Obama and Apple happened over a decade ago.

@Ramza  bbbbut Goukosan all you care is about legislation getting passed, you should only care about empty talking points like me :awww:

They should move the entire production to the US. Stop using slave labor.

It's not that simple.

E.g.

No company in the US has the expertise to make the OLED screens and other parts that Samsung produce and supply to Apple.

That's a totally different industry than microprocessor industry.

It will take decades upon decades for any upstart US company to catch up to Samsung's expertise in this area.

How can Apple dictate where Samsung a non US company manufacture's it's products?

Now multiply this by all the other components in a phone which touch upon a bevy of different industries.... Its not that simple.

With that said, the CHIPS act is still a very huge win for America. Hugely!!! As one would say.

Your attempt to diminish it doesn't change that :umad:

Well I hope this is the start of moving more production back from China.

Thanks to Biden, it clearly is the start.

Quite frankly, its amazing.

Steve Jobs literally told Barack Obama to his face, back in 2011 "those jobs aren't coming back."

And here we are with Apple bring some pretty important component production lines back to the U.S.

Thank you, Biden.
