The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero getting great reviews so far

Recommended Posts

It is a great game.  I played a big chunk of it with the Geofront patch a while back.  I stopped because it became obvious they were going to officially localize it

The PC and Switch versions are improved over the PS4 version... they were redone by Durante's (he did the DSfix Dark Souls mod for PC)  dev team "PH3 Games".. you can expect it to be excellent.  The PS4 version is apparently just directly ported from the Japanese version and Durante's team didn't update it for some reason.

yeah the PC and Switch versions are the way to go, and the reviews themselves are all saying that too.

I would have never even known about this game if you hadn't mentioned it in the other thread. You get my thanks for that :smoke: even if you are a filthy hermit

damn, this is the perfect deck game. PC version has dynamic shadows which for some bizarre reason aren't supported on the switch one

Durante made some posts detailing the work they put into creating this new version of the game.  Primarily focuses on PC features.. but a lot of it also applies to the Switch version.

Part 3

This is why their ports are so loved.  They're extremely high quality and they don't just settle for good enough, they continually push to make everything the best it can be for all their supported platforms.

It really sucks that the PS4 version was handled by NISA and not Durante's team.  The Switch and PC versions are just undoubtedly superior.  Still a great game no matter where you play it though... if you're into these types of games, you should definitely support the work PH3 have done.

Its fine but some of the stuff like the dynamic shadows seem to only occur in very specific lighting conditions? LIke I don't actually think i've seen them yet. Its always just the standard blob shadows like in the Switch version.

Also, they really should have added a feature to automatically forward through dialogue which basically every JRPG has nowadays. Some of the story sequences are really long and it feels like you're hitting the accept button like 50-100 times to get through each one of them.

Yea basically just dungeons, and maps at nighttime.

We now have dynamic shadows from light sources in dungeons, and on other maps at nighttime. As an added bonus, our character shadowing allows distinguishing between torches, flame-like lights, and other light sources, and the former feature a subtle shadow flicker and movement over time.

Basically just artificial light sources like torches and lights.  Not fully dynamic shadows from the sun.
