I’m guessing holiday 2023 with a Mario launch title. :]

Nah im guessing spring 2023 (March) with a Mario title to coincide with the Mario movie that launches on April 7th.

Followed up by a Cross platform BOTW2 launching in May.

  • textures can be low res and muddy
  • the enemy scale is much bigger with more frequent large enemies
  • battle arenas are much larger and the camera is zoomed out
    • due to such, the camera clips through walls
    • to save on fillrate, lots of dithered geometry
  • dynamic 810p docked
  • dynamic 480p portable
  • environment detail really breaks down at close range
  • a good bit of pop-in for small option and low resolution alphas for effects
  • cutscenes are 30fps, no still frames from Bayonetta 1
    • however some videos are videos
    • transitions are seamless though
  • large set-piece scenes are 30fps with solid frame pacing
  • on-foot, the frame rate would rarely hit 60fps, even in non-combat moments
  • similar to Wonderful 101 on Wii U in performance, better than Bayonetta 1 on PS3
  • loading times are fast, as long as 12 seconds
  • great game, but very ambitious, too ambitious for Switch
  • Platinum tools might be seeing some age

this is a mess

I don't think a chipset exists that will move the needle for Nintendo. If they want to stick with Nvidia, the Tegra line moved away from gaming applications, toward robotics and autonomous driving.  If they want to use x86, they'll have to deal with the size/thermal/power constraints we've seen on handheld PCs.  The best bet for Switch compatibility would probably be the XR2+ chip used in Quest Pro, but John Carmack has said it's not a big jump over the XR2 in the Quest2, now 3 years old.

I can tolerate a lot of weak graphics crap but ew at the performance.

It's 2022 and this thing is under 480p in handheld, it's outputting a lower resolution than the original Xbox 2001 ffs :| And even then its dropping ~20 frsmes and is full of dithering to boot.

Fuck sake sheep you might as well just skip this and wait for the inevitable rerelease on the next hardware.

The dithering is ugly as fuck.

We joke about the pathetic performance of Nintendo handhelds, but they're much further behind in system features, OS design, etc. Nobody benefits from Nintendo continuing to make their own system.

i cant think of a meaningful system feature/OS design thing that nintendo is missing that would come close to being as important as game performance.

most of the features/OS stuff on PS/Xbox are gimmicks that go unused. online is really the only meaningful thing they need to fix.
