Halo Infinite Launch Was Like A Runner Tripping And Falling At The Finish Line, Xbox Boss Says

Microsoft Studios boss Matt Booty has discussed Halo Infinite's launch, saying the launch was akin to a runner coming across the finish line and then tripping and falling down.

"The classic runner's mistake of tripping and stumbling as you come across the finish line. We've got to recover there. The burden is on us," he said.

While Halo Infinite's multiplayer had a strong launch, interest and engagement quickly fell off, due in part to a lack of exciting content.

"These days, with a game like Halo Infinite, shipping the game is just the beginning. There has got to be a plan for content sustain; there has got to be a plan for regular continuing engagement. And we just fell short of the plan on that," Booty said.

Apparently the "winter update" which was released today FINALLY fixes the 30fps facial animations bug in the cutscenes that has been there since launch... LOL

And I like that they're naming their updates after the real life seasons now... implying that we wont see another one until Spring... which is March-June... :tom:

In other news, Nintendo released their earnings reporting for Q2 2022, which covers from July 1st, 2022 to September 30, 2022.

Splatoon 3 has sold 7.9 million copies since its launch on September 9, 2022.

Just three weeks of reporting.

5 million of those were sold in Japan.

Splatoon 2 lifetime sales are around 9.4 million. For all we know Splatoon 3 sales may already be close to Splatoon 2 sales at this point.

Nintendo has gotten more people to give $60 to play their shooter than Microsoft can get to play their 20 year old prestige FPS, for free.

the updates are removing content now  :hest:

Halo Infinite bot bootcamp is gone, leaving players without a permanent PVE playlist

"Halo Infinite's bot bootcamp mode is gone as of the newly-released winter update, leaving players without a permanent PVE playlist.

The mode's removal was technically announced as part of a blog post(opens in new tab) last week laying out the playlists which would be available after the winter update. Bot bootcamp was not among them, but since 343 Industries did not directly address the mode's removal, players held out hope that it might still somehow be part of the game. But now that the winter update has arrived, bot bootcamp is nowhere to be found.

Bot bootcamp is billed in-game as a way to introduce players to Halo Infinite's multiplayer game mechanics, but even experienced fans continued to use it as a way to enjoy multiplayer in a lower-stress environment. It also served as a particularly easy way to grind through the game's regular challenges. "

they had one job: just make a visually stunning halo 3-ish game. epic fail.

Exactly.  I just don't get it.

They even had the fucking Series X/S launch to propel this shit and make it a big event... and they botched the fuck out of that... and here we are 2 years later... and we're getting the basic features the game should have had from the start..

Ugh.. the thing is.. there's a lot of good in this game.  I really love the gunplay and the feel of it.  The campaign is good, but you can tell they made massive cuts just to get it out there...  It's just been failure after failure to capitalize on anything positive the game had going for it.

It's simple - 343 isn't Bungie. 343 wanted so desperately to leave their own mark on the series and make it their own thing that they didn't even realize that Halo fans just want Halo to be Halo.

The irony is they went about it by copying what other series were doing and failed when they could've just copied what Bungie did and would have succeeded. Because that's what the fanbase wanted.
