System Wars / Look at this thing :D
November 26, 2023, 04:26:09 PM

God damn, that's crazy impressive.  Truly seamless travel, everything built to proper scale.  Incredible tech going into this game :whew:

Yea yea.. blah blah blah, it's taking 10+ years and $600M...blah blah blah...  It's fucking impressive :reg:

Jesus Christ :D @Twinblade :tom:

Unreal Engine 5 on consoles :hehe:
Long story short:

-Sam Altman is essentially the face of AI and CEO of OpenAI
-It's suspected there was a recent breakthrough they found which will push AI further than anyone ever thought possible
-The board was split on how the company should proceed given this breakthrough
-Sam Altman was suddenly fired by the board of OpenAI, presumably due to being at odds with some board members
-Prominent OpenAI members begin revolting, threatening to leave with if Sam isn't reinstated and the board resign
-MS owns a large portion of OpenAI and their stock stumbles a bit off the news
-OpenAI board and Sam + a another person who were fired have discussions about their return with a 5PM deadline
-Deadline comes and goes, negotiations were still happening, board raises idea of bringing in new CEO along with Sam
-Satya Nadella swoops in, hires Sam Altman and a few others directly to Microsoft, giving them anything they wanted and all the compute power in the world to do it
-Microsoft still committed to working with OpenAI
-Thus Microsoft will have access to all the code, all the weights + information which is stored on their Azure servers
-And they will have the brightest and best minds creating a new wholly Microsoft owned solution

Satya Nadella turned a potentially disastrous situation for Microsoft into an incredible positive for them which will lead them to become the biggest/richest company in the world by far.

As we always knew, the PC version would be the best version because of the mods.. and this is a must have.  Makes it feel so much more natural to play. :aitch:
System Wars / Super Mario RPG Review thread

Meta is currently at 84

Anotha banger :wow2:

Apparently it's essentially a 1:1 copy and they didn't take any liberties to change or add much to it.. which is fine by me, because the original is one of the best games ever.

Gamespot and IGN gave it an 8/10, which is fair I'd say since it's essentially the same game without any improvements outside of the visuals.

Nice to see John and Digital Foundry confirm exactly what I said about Quest 2/3 + Virtual Desktop wireless VR being incredible and just like native.  Once you untether on a real VR device, you don't ever want to go back. :reg:

I'll get this when it's cheap.  Switch version is quite compromised but has the best input lag out of all the consoles.  PS5/XS consoles look, perform, and load exactly the same, but Xbox has more lag over the PS5.

PC is by far the best version.  Fastest loading, lowest input lag, 120fps, and the ability to mod the soundtrack to replace the shitty music in some sections. :smoke:
This is native res without DLSS3 or Framegen.

With only DLSS, performance improves over launch version by 69%, and with Framegen that goes up to 133% improvement lol.

System Wars / Christian Gyrling is leaving Naughty Dog
November 10, 2023, 06:16:44 PM

This isn't a doom/gloom thread.. so let's not get into that shit.  The guy is simply moving on to other things after a long time at ND.. but he was undoubtedly also massively instrumental to Naughty Dog and their tech teams, so it's kind of a big deal.  He was also Vice President of Naughty Dog.

Dude really helped elevate Naughty Dog and their reputation regarding graphics and visuals.

Good news for them hitting their Xbox release this year.  Will benefit all other platforms as well.

Will be interesting to see how they nip'd/tuck'd everything to get it on Series S.

Seems like Geoff is going to get the big reveal at the VGAs?  Maybe not, because R* can do whatever the hell they want, but it makes sense.
QuoteIn a recent interview with Famitsu, Phil Spencer listed some interesting metrics for Japan. Spencer believes that Game Pass PC will be a key asset in improving Xbox's presence in Japan. According to the gaming boss, Japan's PC market has doubled and the amount of Japanese users subscribed to Game Pass' PC plan are up by 4x.

"Xbox Game Pass has an important meaning on Xbox. In particular, the growth of PC Game Pass is remarkable. The size of the Japanese PC game market has roughly doubled in the past three years, but the number of PC Game Pass users has quadrupled. Game Pass is growing faster than the market, which is great for the Xbox brand as a whole,"Spencer told the Japanese video games outlet.

And devices like the Deck, Ally, and Legion Go, are going to make it even more enticing for Japanese gamers to jump into PC gaming.  It's finally small enough and portable enough lol.

Really what's happening though is due to Sony's failure to address the Japanese market, a lot of Japanese gamers are moving over to PC since now all the major Japanese publishers support PC and you even have pubs like Capcom stating that PC is the primary platform now.

It's crazy to think how far it's come.  The catalyst was Dark Souls coming to PC.  After that happened and Durante released the mod for the game for 60fps and 4K... gamers bought that shit in droves and it made other Japanese publishers realize how lucrative PC gaming could be for them.  The rest is history.

PCPC#1 :aitch:

Oh, and I should also point out that it's so fucking clear as day that Microsoft now sees PC as it's primary gaming platform and their console is absolutely secondary.  PC is where all the growth is going to happen.. if there is any.

22h - Destiny 2 Dev Team
This has been one of the most difficult weeks in our studio's history, as we've parted ways with people we respect and admire. We've spent this week supporting one another, including those who are at the studio, as well as friends and colleagues who no longer are.
We want to acknowledge the feedback and concerns you have about Lightfall and recent Seasons, as well as your responses to the reveal of The Final Shape. We know we have lost a lot of your trust. Destiny needs to surprise and delight. We haven't done this enough and that's going to change.
To us the path forward is clear: We need to make The Final Shape an unforgettable Destiny experience. We want to build something that will be regarded alongside the best games we've ever made – a fitting culmination that honors the journey we've been on together for the past ten years. Forsaken, The Witch Queen, and The Taken King – these are the standard bearers we aim to live up to.
We are intensely focused on exceeding your expectations for The Final Shape. Destiny 2 has more than 650 dedicated teammates pouring all their energy and expertise into delivering this epic moment and its subsequent Episodes.
In the weeks ahead, you'll be hearing more from us about what's next on the short-term horizon, beginning with our next Season in late November. Afterwards, we'll begin to unpack our team's bigger, bolder, and brighter vision for The Final Shape, as well as the bridge we plan to build to take us all out of this Darkness and into the Light.
See you starside,
The Destiny 2 Dev Team

Bubu save your crocodile tears bungy.. you didn't give a single FUCK when you fired decades long employees who were literally integral to your success with their DNA in your products.. :shake:

Destiny 2 updates are disappointing and they're losing players...  and to top it off Marathon was play tested by people and NONE of them said they were interested in it.. hence the delay...

This is the company Sony put in charge of deciding the fate of Naughty Dogs "The Last of US" game........ can you fucking believe that? :kaz:
