Yeah, it's the origin of the American version of the monster verse stuff. It's actually good. They are doing a good job of using a TV season to tell a story. It's more human based and luckily the writing and acting are solid. Took me a sec to realize that Kurt Russell and his son were playing the same character. 

The main girl is probably the prettiest Japanese woman I've ever seen.

She's also in this show I'm looking forward to Shogun.

Ripoff in what sense? This game is based on a pretty old mobile RPG license that spawned multiple side projects and Xenoblade isn't like the only action RPG of it's type. I can see some resemblances but that's about it.
